Drag & Drop catalog item from one XY instance to another
I'm using two different XY sessions as described here. Thing is, while I want to keep the tabs separate, I would actually like to use the same or similar catalogs.
Instead of re-adding certain items to one of the catalogs, I though it would be nice if I could just drag & drop these items from one instance of XY to the other.

Re: Drag & Drop catalog item from one XY instance to another
Maybe this helps:
You can just INCLUDE the other catalog
----------
XY1
cat1
----------
=======
XY2
cat2
included cat1
=======
BTW:
Then you can also drag&drop (and hold Strg) to copy from included cat1 to main catalog cat2.
- - -
Or you could use smtg like:
----------
XY1
cat1
included common_cat
----------
=======
XY2
cat2
included common_cat
=======
Try using right mouse click on the catalog to see this features.
If you need an step-by-step howto just ask.

I think I don't understand
. Where do I find INCLUDE? (didn't find it in any Catalog related context menu and also not in the help file).

Re: Drag & Drop catalog item from one XY instance to another
Which XYplorer version do you use?
start of idea > http://www.xyplorer.com/xyfc/viewtopic. ... 985#p30985
Code: Select all
v9.90.0504 - 2011-03-20 09:15
+ Catalog: Added Import/Export functionality. Find the new commands
"Import Catalog..." and "Export Category..." in the Catalog
context menu under the submenu "Catalog".
Import Catalog: Here you can import other catalogs into the
current catalog at the position right before the currently
selected category.
Export Category: Here you can export the current category as
a self-contained catalog. This one-category-catalog can later be
imported, but also be loaded stand-alone.
This feature provides a new elegant way of sharing extended
functionality (scripts, filters ...) between users.Code: Select all
v9.90.0601 - 2011-03-29 14:50
+++ Catalog Merging: Now you can merge any number of catalogs with the
current catalog. Contrary to imported catalogs (using the Import
command) merged Catalogs are read-only and kind of temporary:
...
Usage:
- This is mainly a company-oriented feature. Employees can access
read-only catalogs that are centrally stored on a server and
thus include extended functionality such as scripts, links, drop
targets, text data, etc. right into their XYplorer interface.-

Thanks, for pointing this out.

The latest official release is. 9.90.0900. So the last numbers are not recognized as official? Interesting. Damn, it's time for 10.00!phitsc wrote:Ahhh, I'm using the latest official release, i.e. 9.90.0000.

Ah, thanks for mentioning that. You know, the way I usually found out about new releases was I check the betas topic in the forum (to get an idea what you're working on) and it used to say: new official release (or something similar). But that doesn't seem to be the case any more.admin wrote:The latest official release is. 9.90.0900. So the last numbers are not recognized as official? Interesting. There is not 'automatically check for updates' in XY, or is there?

What could it be that justifies 10.00?admin wrote:... Damn, it's time for 10.00!
FTP'd tab groups allowing zip previewing in shell columns for non-drive devices and virtual folders and all of that using snippets. And in 64-bit of course

Re: Drag & Drop catalog item from one XY instance to another
I've been holding back since January 2011. The plan was and is XYcopy 2.0 (and I'm coming nearer). But when you look at the countless improvements of the 9.90.0*** series then 10.00 is already overjustified: http://www.xyplorer.com/release_9.90.htmphitsc wrote:What could it be that justifies 10.00?admin wrote:... Re: Drag & Drop catalog item from one XY instance to another
I still think drag & drop from one XY to the other would be very nice to have, mainly to save me from having to go and find out which and where the other catalog file is.
Include and copying with Ctrl worked just fine though. So thanks again for pointing that out Stefan.
