Moving menus Views and Sort By

Post by admin »

I think the submenus Views and Sort By should be moved upwards (from submenu Tab) to be located directly under menu View. Reason: They are more expected there.

The stop of menu View would then look like this:

Code: Select all

Views >
Sort By >
Columns >
---
Tab >
---
...
Both, Views and Sort By, would then disappear from the tab headers context menu, making it smaller. They will still be available in the list white space context menu.

Any objections anybody? (I'm actually wondering why I didn't do this in the first palace).

Because "Views" and "Sorts" related to tabs (can be different tab by tab) the original place is good.

If you decide changing, in my point of view the most important is to keep this:
They will still be available in the list white space context menu.

I tend to agree on this but am also somewhat understanding of revised idea.

I sometimes have a problem finding the desired white space so prefer having them in a known place which the tab header provides.
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!
(XP on laptop with touchpad and thus NO mouse!) Using latest beta vers when possible.

If I leave them where they are, shouldn't submenu Columns be moved to the same place? (I'm sure there was a reason why I originally placed Columns separated from Views and Sort By, but I don't see it at the moment.)

And if that is done, then Columns would be avail via tab header context also, right? Yes, it makes that context menu longer but it would be more consistent, I believe.

Yes. They should be together. The current separation is a relict of older times.
And I agree it is good to have them in the tab header context menu (because white space is often hard to find in the list).

So, contrary to my initial idea, "Columns" will move down to "Tab".

BTW, I found this in the change log: :)

Code: Select all

v5.50.0005 - 2007-01-01 12:47
    * Menu View: renamed submenu "Tab" to "Current Tab", just to be a
      tad more explicit.
    * Reorganized parts of the "View" menu: submenus "Views" and "Sort By"
are now located below/inside submenu "Current Tab". Consequently
they are now available as well in the tab headers' context menu.

Seeing this topic I don't understand the placement of Favorite Files/Toggle Favorite File. Why is this different from Favorite Folder?? Maybe "Toggle Favorite File" should be in the toggle group, and if there isn't any favorite file, this menu should be grayed. And the more important thing. why could I put folders to favorite files by CTRL+E? Not too consistent.

Yes, this part of the UI is a bit dusty. Apart from a tiny difference it's like two separate favorite lists (both support folders and files). Which may have its uses. I personally use Favorite Files for a couple of files and Favorite Folders for lots of folders. It makes sense to me and therefore it will stay.
