About half an hour ago I launched XY, and the GUI wouldn't show up. I saw the process(es, I tried may times) in the Task Manager, so I thought the new version broke s.th (I installed that one yesterday).
I played around with some of the XYplorer[Win].ini files, I had 2 of them, so I started checking what would work and what not. When doing a WinMerge between a working one which had none of my customizations, and the last one I used, I saw WinOnTray=1 which reminded me that I checked that Minimize to tray on X close yesterday. So I used my standard config file, and saw that it was indeed minimized to the tray. Turns out that I didn't notice it right from the beginning. Clicking on the icon in the tray would make the GUI show up.
But really, that's silly. If I'm launching XY it's because I want to use it right away, so this looks more like a little bug to me.
Kind regards,
Daniel
BTW: still very happy with the product and impressed by the useful features which get added constanly. That's really cool.

It might be that you checked in Configuration > Startup & Exit, both Startup minimized and Minimize to tray, instead?leinad wrote:About half an hour ago I launched XY, and the GUI wouldn't show up. Definitely not. Only "Minimize to x on close" was checked. Neither "Startup minimized" nor "Minimize to tray" were checked.

Can't reproduce with 9.90.0803. Could you post a screenshot of Configuration > Startup & Exit?leinad wrote:Definitely not. Only "Minimize to x on close" was checked. Neither "Startup minimized" nor "Minimize to tray" were checked.

I can reproduce it every time.
Looks like I found the problem: I've got a checkmark on "Save settings on exit". When I x-close, and then close it from the system tray (or reboot my machine), that minimized state get's saved. so when I launch it again, it launches in the minimized state. When I remove the checkmark on "Save settings on exit", it shows up after having been fully closed.
WinMerge also showed a difference at WinState=, I believe that saving this is causing the issue. I don't see much use in saving the state of the window, specially if it causes the problem mentioned in this thread.

I can see why Save settings on exit, would persist the window state including minimized. As your experience shows however, excluding the minimized state from the saved window state on exit (while still allowing those who want to start minimised, to enable Configuration > Startup & Exit > Startup minimized) might be an idea.leinad wrote:I can reproduce it every time.

It might be. Anyway, I'm not valuing this feature very much, so I've disabled it (and believe that I'm not going to miss it). It's not that I *need* that extra space on the taskbar and the load times of xy are super fast anyway, and if I want to keep some state in a window I don't hestitate to leave it open all day.

One thing you could do is change your shortcut to XY to include the command line switch:Then no matter what state XY is closed in (tray, minimized, maximized) it will start as a normal (restored) window.
Code: Select all
/win=normal-

Re: Show GUI after launch if "Min. to tray on X close" is checkd
I never understood why somebody wants to startup minimized-on-tray (I find the whole tray business outdated) but I vaguely remember it has been wished and up to now nobody ever complained about it. And since the general rule in XY is to startup just as you closed (or as near as possible), the current behaviour fits.
