Auto Refresh not working

Post by Ghosty »

Auto refresh isn't working when an outside source (command prompt) renames a folder.

Known limitation; please see this post by the developer.

That's from 7/2010. Is it going to be fixed?

It's not a bug but rather a limitation as a result of a speed trade-off, i.e. a judgement call made by the developer. He's the only one who has seen the performance of XYplorer when it's trying to keep up with tree changes through all means, and apparently it's bad.

There are two ways to mitigate this:
- manually refreshing the Tree;
- using the tweak

Code: Select all

RefreshTreeOnTabChange=2
to have XYplorer refresh the current drive when you change tabs.

Personally, I'm not happy about it either; however, I have seen a competing file manager who does manage to pick up all changes and its performance is indeed dreadful.

Yes, I've seen the slow refresh on others...
There is one without that issue, but it's is quite expensive.

And not only expensive, but as I understand it, not nearly as responsive to user input as Don and XY is...that aspect alone is what sold me on this product.
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!
(XP on laptop with touchpad and thus NO mouse!) Using latest beta vers when possible.

This non-refresh is going to drive me crazy, can't have it.
Good example of why I'm not a windows fanboy, it's just not made right.

What options do I have to make it refresh when there's a change?

I'm afraid I can't offer more help than I did in my previous post:
XYplorer *will* catch:
- everything happening in the folder currently visible in the list;
- tree changes made as specified here;
XYplorer won't catch tree changes made by programs using the mkdir kernel function without them posting a notification (examples include the command prompt and uTorrent).

The two workarounds I posted for manual refresh (manually refreshing the Tree or using the tweak to have the Tree refreshed when changing tabs) are the sole two workarounds I know of. Also, when entering a folder not yet reflected in the Tree, XYplorer will update the Tree to include it.

Is there a way to create a folder from command prompt aside from mkdir?
Maybe call some app that XYplorer can hear?
