XYPlorer is very slow with folders
Noticed such thing that Win7 has in Windows folder subfolder as \winsxs\ which contains thousands of folders in it. Most of them have only couple of files in. Now when selecting all these folders and trying to right click then it takes 10+ seconds time when menu opens. Now when selecting Properties, same thing, 10+ seconds takes time when it opens properties popup window (of course then it will start to counting how many bytes there are total). OK, no problem, can live with this. But now when trying to reset permissions in Security tab (which I had to do because I wanted to delete this leftover from previous Win7 installation, I have dualboot with WinXP) then it takes 10+ minutes (actually I don't know how much time it takes if selecting all, I just tried with 20-30 folders) applying new permissions. In Windows Explorer whole operation takes only couple of seconds. Question is: Why XYplorer is so slow? Using latest build 9.90.100

Good question. I don't know. In the moment the context menu is opened the shell takes over. From then on -- in theory -- everything should be the same whether you are in XY, or Explorer, or elsewhere.
Or could this depend on rights? Did you try running XY as Admin?

XP, with only one user (admin), XYplorer portable.

Do you use any additional security software and/or do you have Windows Defender running on either XP or Windows 7?tomuser wrote:XP, with only one user (admin), XYplorer portable.

I have only Avast! AV as realtime security. But it shouldn't make any difference between using XYplorer and Windows Explorer and setting permissions to files. Minutes vs seconds.nas8e9 wrote:Do you use any additional security software and/or do you have Windows Defender running on either XP or Windows 7?tomuser wrote:XP, with only one user (admin), XYplorer portable.
PS! I'm still working in XP. Win7 has some unchangeable things that I really-really hate.

It might be that Windows Explorer has a tighter integration with the shell API in non-documented ways. I have no better explanation.
