File placed in Temp folder is no longer deleted
The file with name like ~DFF2962182E7A1F220.TMP is no longer deleted from Windows temp folder when program is closed - beginning with 9.80.0101+.
Re: File placed in Temp folder is no longer deleted
I'm seeing a similarly named file being created in %temp% when XYplorer starts; after XYplorer has quit, it's still there. A search in Process Explorer shows that the file is opened by XYplorer.exe as both a handle as well as a DLL.m48tx wrote:The file with name like ~DFF2962182E7A1F220.TMP is no longer deleted from Windows temp folder when program is closed - beginning with 9.80.0101+.
XYplorer 9.80.0125 / Windows 7 x64 RTM.

Re: File placed in Temp folder is no longer deleted
XP: I cannot confirm that this started with 9.80.0101+. Actually every XY version I tested (back to 6.80) creates a file in TEMP and deletes on closing the app. Also the current version deletes it.
Win7/64: confirmed for the current BETA. Did not test other versions. Are you sure it started with 9.80.0101?

Re: File placed in Temp folder is no longer deleted
Investigated this under Win7/64. Results are puzzling:
1) I can confirm that this problem (TEMP file not removed after exit) starts with v9.80.0101+.
2) I have no idea what change in the code caused this change in behavior. Not even a slight suspicion.
3) It seems that disabling auto-complete for Address Bar AND Find Files Location (see screenshot) seems to "fix" the problem (only when you startup AND exit with both settings disabled). Can you confirm this?
4) I have no idea why disabling auto-complete "fixes" the problem, or why this "fix" was not necessary in any version before v9.80.0101 (resp. v9.80.0101+).
5) I have no idea why this problem is only showing in Win7/64 (and probably Vista/64).
Hm.

Can't confirm: when starting and exiting with the above settings, the temp file remains.admin wrote:3) It seems that disabling auto-complete for Address Bar AND Find Files Location (see screenshot) seems to "fix" the problem (only when you startup AND exit with both settings disabled). XYplorer 9.80.0126 / Windows 7 x64.
Re: File placed in Temp folder is no longer deleted
Thanks for your response! I am using Win7-32bit and am not exactly sure when the problem started, but I believe it was sometime after 9.80.0100 (that is why I originally put 9.80.0101+). I am currently using version 9.80.0125 and have attached a series of screen caps of the temp folder. I changed the options as you suggested and the file remains in temp after the program is closed. I'm sure this is no big deal, but as much as I open an close the XYplorer, I end up with quite the list of files.

Re: File placed in Temp folder is no longer deleted
In the meantime I could trace it down to the presence of WMP... so it started with v9.80.0121...

Re: File placed in Temp folder is no longer deleted
Strange that nobody of you can confirm this. It works for me 100%:admin wrote:In the meantime I could trace it down to the presence of WMP... so it started with v9.80.0121...

Anyway, I could not find a fix nor any information on this. So I will eventually have to remove WMP (OR maybe auto-complete) from XY. OTOH, when I look at my TMP folder it seems leaving traces there is almost common standard.

Unfortunately not, as posted earlier.admin wrote:Strange that nobody of you can confirm this. It works for me 100%:admin wrote:In the meantime I could trace it down to the presence of WMP... so it started with v9.80.0121...

My $0.02 would be that both are valuable functions, whereas more advanced users will probably do some form of %temp% maintenance.admin wrote:Anyway, I could not find a fix nor any information on this. Re: File placed in Temp folder is no longer deleted
i took a look into my temp dir and found those files, too (Win7/64). The oldest file with this naming scheme is from 2010-01-24. Unchecking the autocomplete for address bar and find files doesn't stop creation of those files.
Re: File placed in Temp folder is no longer deleted
Please don't remove functionality! However, what is this file used for? You must have logic in your program to remove it upon close. It is baffling that WMP would prevent the file removal.

Seems like Thunderbird portable also does this:

Re: File placed in Temp folder is no longer deleted
Yes, totally baffling. I have no idea what's going on and I'm not responsible for this temp file (neither creation nor removal). It looks like some sort of resource (there are bitmap data of the app icon contained). I'm still researching this.m48tx wrote:Please don't remove functionality! However, what is this file used for? Re: File placed in Temp folder is no longer deleted
I'm working on making it (WMP) work.
Here's a test app showing the last problem I have: Whenever you play, pause, or stop an audio/video the WMP control auto-snaps to some undesired size. Totally weird.
If anybody has a clue what's going on here...
Test app (8 KB):
http://www.xyplorer.com/download/WMPLab.zip
Usage:
Extract exe and place it where you have some MPG, AVI, MOV, MP4, or MP3. Those file types will be listed inside the app and ready for loading and playing in the WMP control.
@JohnM: Can you start this app without error? (You won't be able to do much more with it but I hope you can at least start it).

I ran the program as instructed and saw the same result as you. I'm clueless, but wanted to add my confirmation to your observation. The preview in 9.80.0126 works fine.admin wrote:I'm working on making it (WMP) work.
