Did I miss something? I thought I was supposed to do a complete reformat and / or buy a new pc at this stage ? That is not having enough RAM to run virtual system. And the fault apparently lying with my specific config.
Could I urge you to try something less drastic: install WMP? WMP being the gold standard with regard to Windows's built-in playback compatibility, it could settle once and for all whether XYplorer or Windows is to blame for your .mov playback problem.

OK I will try it-it is worth it if it allows XYP to preview mov files.

Update;- as expected NOTHING is easy with MS ...."Note: Available only in Windows 7. Windows Media Player 12 comes as part of Windows 7 and is not available as a separate download."

So am off now chasing version 11 ( I suppose) (maybe it would be easier to re-format?)

OK so now I enabled mov files in WMplayer. Opened XYP and the preview for mov is still a nice progress bar with no display of sound or video--- I went in to F9--added mov files--re started XYP opened a mov file and I got the message in the preview box " Not a text file".

next idea? ( I know, re format??)

Your WMplayer (alone, not in XY) plays the MOV?

Just right clicked on three mov clips-chose "Play with wm player" all three played fine... ( sorry!)

Edit;- may be I shouldn't have added mov to XYP media list? I am completely confused now as to which way to go--{(particularly when it is sooo easy to grab a cheap and nasty alternative( but want to stick with XYP of course !)}

Wait for the next beta, I have no given up yet.

I just tried to play a MOV in WMP in my Win7 but could not. Did you install any codecs to make this work? (sorry, too lazy to reread the whole thread...)

No probs happy to help in any way--as far as I remember the approx. order was;-

GOM player was installed originally-it has been my default player for ALL media files-previously everything played fine in XYP alongside GOM player-never added any extra codecs at all up to this recent problem.

Then added your codec recommendation (forgotten the name)

Uninstalled Quicktime Alternative

added Quicktime

Added WMp 11/12

all this time nothing made mov play in XYP--nothing STOPPED mov being played in Xplorer2 or Gom Player

Didn't bother to try much in wmplayer as I am terminally allergic to it.

OK, in the next BETA you will have to set a tweak to preview videos thru WMP:

Code: Select all

PreviewWmpVideo=1
:!: Read this in case you don't know how to tweak XY:

mov is working fine here in xyp,in fact I think any file that wmp can play,can be played in xyp too.

My default player is not wmp(no file type is associated to it)but every file type that I tried is working with the embedded wmp or without it(but there are still few bugs with the embedded wmp....on mp4 the tag info is over the player and mkv is started by the old player,not with the embedded wmp)

Most of this should be fixed in v9.80.0123.

Conc. mkv: I'll check that...

btw I forgot to mention that if you use the wmp seek(or click anywhere on the player),you loose focus to the list and you can't use the up/down buttons to switch to the next file.
PreviewWmpProgress must always be on 1 and use that seek to avoid this problem

OK downloaded--opened the .ini file--I see the three teaks are there. Wasn't sure how to activate them--played a mov file after F12 but exactly the same as previous;- progress bar moving, no sound no video...am I missing something here? ( quite likely)
