copy directory text list

Post by no9 »

Hi, I did a search but couldn't find if a certain function already exists or if anyone has asked for this feature...

I would like to see if a directory list can be captured for either an entire directory or a selected group of files, with the ability to copy the text of the contents to a program such as notepad. It would be similar to implementing a ctrl-c and ctrl-v except the last step would not copy the files, but only the file names. I think that the DOS function dir had a similar utility, but this would be in windows.

Have you tried menu File > To Clipboard > Item Path/Names (see all the options) after having selected all the files/folders ?
Before, you can also Show All Items in Branch (menu Edit).

Also look at the Report tab on the Info Panel, it's made for this.

Or if you generally steer clear of menus...
Select your files, then press CTRL+P for paths and names or CTRL+SHIFT+P just for names (then you just CTRL+V in your favourite text editor). It's a lighter version of the full reports you can get that Don (admin) mentioned.
