hi,
i've recently been trying out xyplorer and was wondering if there is a recommended way to enhance the copy functionality?
my main requirement is an option to rename duplicate files when copied... for example i often copy files which have the same name and i'd like the option to rename the original files, not just the new files (as you wet with standard windows copy)...
i tried installing terra copy and tried following the various threads to get that working as that sounded ideal, but unfortunately terra copy would never seem to trigger, even when i replaced the keyboard shortcuts etc... i'm using w7 x64....
so is there any software which does integrate smoothly with xyplorer and can enhance copying?
thanks very much in advance

Welcome!
Don
How would you rename them? What pattern? (This feature will be added in "XYcopy 2.0" beginning of next year, and could be added to "Backup" even sooner.)dog wrote:and i'd like the option to rename the original files

Re: advanced copy features
thanks for the reply
i used directory opus a while ago and i did like the renaming method they used....
if a file (or a few files) that were being copied had the same name then there was to option to overwrite, rename original or rename new...
of course any other options which i haven't thought of would also be great (maybe pausing transfers, that sort of thing...)
i looked for details of XYCopy, but couldn't find anything... what is it? is it a seperate application to xyplorer?
again, thanks...
edit : sorry, i din't actually answer your question regarding which format to rename to... basically, i don't care
when i used this with directory opus it merely renamed th original file to 'filename.exe (original)' or something like that...

Re: advanced copy features
"XYcopy 2.0" is the stage name of the next development phase of queued background processing of file operations. It will be a big feature...
As to the pattern I would suggest appending a number suffix: originalname.txt -> originalname-01.txt (or -> originalname-02.txt if originalname-01.txt already exists as well, etc.).

Within 1 hour...dog wrote:great, looking forward to it
FYI, you will configure the desired behavior in Configuration | File Operations | Backup Operations | On name collisions...
and then use the Backup, Backup Here, Backup To... family of commands to do your copies.

You've been lucky:dog wrote:wow.

1) I was a bit bored.
2) I needed something to procrastinate what I should really do (the online documentation for 9.80, ahhh I hate this...).
3) It was planned anyway.
4) It was easy to do.
Hope it works.
