Dual Pane; Dual Toolbar?

Post by aurumdigitus »

Having upgraded to a wide screen monitor now prefer to have DP in horizontal mode. Is there any way that a second TB (preferably a different one) could be displayed over the lower view?

We have plenty of more than two fools on the line eagerly waiting, itching for dual-kicking ass file management (=dual trees, too!).

Perhaps this Christmas we'll have a gift out of the list (or making its way into it, perhaps)?
And regarding the common suggestion of a second instance, two words:
1) much more space to deal with;
2) it is a limiter when it comes to scripts having to interact with the second pane+tree.
So - dual everything!

I don't know how much more work it would be for Don, but if we had user-definable dockable/movable toolbars, this issue would be easily addressed (and give users a LOT more flexibility -- even vertical toolbars would be a possibility...)

In fact, I've used some programs where almost all of the UI elements are movable and hideable -- I think that would be an AWESOME addition!

Hummm, yes really hadn't thought of going that far but it would be a meritorious program augmentation!

Thanks for your ideas.

FYI, to keep enough time for coding I have to further reduce the time I spend for replying in the forum. The following still holds: I read everything, but I don't reply to everything. In case of wishes, this usually means: Not interested, and no time to say why.

Never mind! :)

While the "toolbar debate" rages on here is an idea. Now that the Catalog has gone on steroids with 9.7's ability to switch DAT files some of us really have little need of the Address Bar. How about an option under Menu Window|Layout that does not have Address Bar thereby freeing up some screen real estate?

It's already possible to hide the Address Bar through Window > Show Address Bar. The space that frees can presumably be used for buttons, albeit for the single Toolbar?

Am humbly embarrassed to admit that got by me. A personal "shellacking"!

I'd really like to see the Dual Tree feature somewhere in the future. We have dual pane, why not dual tree where each pane has its own tree view and not having the now-one tree jumping around its view when I switch panes?
Many programs operating on dual panes (FTP, other file management, website sync etc) have this.
Also as a sidenote, maybe a separated tabbar would be good to use the screen realestate and not limiting the current bar to the right pane only and not using the otherwise wide treeview area I currently have on my 1920 resolution.
I still use 8.xx and do not use many of the fancy features but the basic ones extensively. I'm yet to see something (mostly interface related) in the forthcoming versions that will push me to upgrade, maybe in 10.x :) . That's just me.
