I wonder if I should set the factory default to not Show floppy drives. I personally did not touch a floppy disk within the current millenium a single time... (exception: throwing them into the bin).
What do you think?

Re: Show floppy drives?
I don't use floppies at all any more since about two years; a quick glance at new computers for sale doesn't turn up a single one with a floppy drive. Based on that, I think it a good idea to change the default. I'm guessing the change in the default refresh to include the tree has something to do with this?
By way of stating the obvious, adding something to both the help file as well as the web site FAQ might be prudent. Additionally, perhaps a prompt on initial run if XYplorer detects a physical floppy drive?

Re: Show floppy drives?
Actually I'm not sure what happens on a computer without a floppy drive. I assume (and hope) that drive letter A will not show in the Tree in that case. Can anybody confirm this?nas8e9 wrote:I don't use floppies at all any more since about two years; a quick glance at new computers for sale doesn't turn up a single one with a floppy drive. Re: Show floppy drives?
The floppy on my laptop is modular so I can swap it in/out with a battery or CD/ROM;DVD/CD drive and AFAIR, when I put the floppy in, XY add's it to tree as A: just like it adds D: when I put in a CD drive or G:/I:/etc when I put in a USB drive.admin wrote:Actually I'm not sure what happens on a computer without a floppy drive. Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!
(XP on laptop with touchpad and thus NO mouse!) Using latest beta vers when possible.

No physical drive, no drive displayed.
I assume it would be the physical drive you would not display and not a mapped drive, if the drive letter was mapped.

Re: Show floppy drives?
Current machine is now five years old and did not come with a floppy. Have never missed it once! USB drives long since have replaced that functionality.
Back before starting with XY the floppy - though nonexistent - did show up in the in MS Explorer tree. Solution was to disable it via Device Manager.

What do you think?
And i always use the A and B letter for USB-Sticks (because next drive letters are always used by network mappings)
FYI, i see this on this PC:
- I have no Floppy Drive in this PC.
- I have "[X] Show floppy drives" enabled.
- I didn't see the A drive in the tree.
- Only if i connect my USB-Drive the A: is shown above "C:" as "Wechseldatenträger (A:)"
Seams fine to me.
But since i can enable "[X] Show floppy drives" back on my own
if you would disable it on factory default, i guess it won't disturb me much.

The latest version (v9.60.0012) has an improved floppy drive detection (took me the whole morningStefan wrote:Admins still use floppies.admin wrote:I wonder if I should set the factory default to not Show floppy drives.
