I still find having tree refresh separate to be a good thing because on my system, I've found that I can refresh list quicker than tree and would still like to have that ability in future...I'm starting to agree that, by default, F5 should do both tree and list but I'd probably customize it to list only to better meet my style/usage.

FYI: When I added those functions computers were far slower than today, and it made sense to split them for performance reasons.

while we're discussing hotkeys, may i suggest making an additional hotkey for specifically activating the address bar field? ALT+D, like web browsers. we use this all the time in web browsers and it would be handy to have this hotkey carry over into xyplorer.

i know we have F6, but this is not as efficient to press as ALT+D. because F6 makes us reach but ALT+D leaves our hand in convenient position to do CTRL+C / P, etc.

It already there: menu Tools>Customize keyboard shortcuts>Miscellaneous>Focus address Bar
You can change it to whatever you like.

AFAIK: the standard for focusing address bar (atleast in web browsers) is: F6 or Ctrl+L.

in internet explorer, maxthon, firefox, and chrome it's ALT+D in addition to F6. but chrome has CTRL+L in addition to the F6 / ALT+D. so ALT+D is pretty standard, too.

also, ive noticed that the CTRL+L for address bar seems to be a carry over from the Mac/Safari browser. but for PC browsers, its usually ALT+D / F6.

FWIW, I just tried Alt+D in my Opera browser...gives a "Go To" pop-up even when I don't have AB showing which I normally have hidden to save screen space.

Don, not an objection, but is XY smart enough to not refresh the tree if this is called and the tree is hidden or at least give it a very low priority?

I'd hate for someone, like myself, who hides and never uses the tree to see refreshes wasting time because F5 is enumerating a hidden tree. Especially if it's tying everything up while checking network locations.

EDIT: And address bar.. Alt+D is the stupidest decision I've ever seen for it. I abhor the people that allowed that to become standard. I am 110% in the Ctrl+L camp.
EDIT 2: To clarify, I'm not against XY having Alt+D defined by default, just the morons who chose it originally and continued to use it until it became a de facto standard.

but ALT+D is very efficient/ergonomic. because users usually have the left hand at that ASDF position when preparing to type or copy/paste. thus not needing to move hand and reach.

The home row keys make no difference when comparing Alt+D vs. Ctrl+L, they are both on the home row. What Alt+D has for it is the people who spend the day with one hand on the keyboard and one on the mouse, but when you are focusing a control that is very much keyboard more than mouse driven, I'm not sure that really matters.

I find Ctrl+L both more efficient and ergonomic, most keyboards I've used make Ctrl much easier to press than Alt. It also makes more sense since Alt is typically reserved for menu/visible access keys, and the practice of wasting space in the toolbar for labeling controls is (thankfully) pretty much dead.

And I repeat, I don't care if XY continues to use it for the default but I will always think of it as one of the stupidest shortcuts I've ever known.

FYI, XY default is Ctrl+Alt+A. :)
