it would be nice to incorporate a change in how a highlighted folder name behaves on the left-side folder view pane.
currently, if you highlight a folder to rename it, xyplorer by default (unless there is a setting i'm not aware of) shifts the selected box with the name so that you view the right-most end only, if the name exceeds the width of the left folders pane/panel. if you need to change characters at the beginning of the name box, the scroll will not allow this (for instance, by using the right keyboard arrow to move the cursor to the left). by attempting to scroll the cursor to the left end of the folder name, you are taken out of rename mode.
i hope it is somewhat clear what i am trying to do. it doesn't seem like this is the kind of function that should have a preference setting, but rather a feature that is enabled by default, since renaming is a function that any configuration would want to enable. maybe i'm missing something, because i would have thought most would find the lack of this capability to be annoying. it's true that you can rename by other methods, but i usually look to being able to do it in the folder tree rather than the right pane, or by expanding the left pane.
thank you.

Re: enable full left pane cursor scrolling for wide folder boxes
Hi and welcome to the XY forums!
A looooong file name that doesn't fit in tree panel before rename invoked: After F2 is used, the name shifts to the right and thus first chars are unseen so even when up-arrow is used to move cursor to 1st char, you can't see it: And using the scroll bar terminates rename mode...thus I agree a problem exists...it'll be up to Don as to what he could do about this.
It wasn't 100% clear from reading your post but a quick experiment did clarify it...part of it was due to your referring to the tree (that's what you meant, right?) as the left pane because in a dual-pane setup, left pane means someting different...anyway, using a couple of mini-screen prints:no9 wrote:i hope it is somewhat clear what i am trying to do.

Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!

Re: enable full left pane cursor scrolling for wide folder boxes
thank you for the reply. i knew my terminology might get me into trouble, but i think you understand my thoughts. one thing, just to be picky, i think that when you highlight a folder in the tree and then press F2, the folder name characters shift far left, thus exposing the far right of the name in the view. also, i guess i took for granted that i am configured similar to windows explorer, but with multiple tabs and a wide right folder/file area for different drives and folders. sorry for the confusion as i wasn't thinking that most may be using dual panes. i suppose i should read more on the basics to keep the confusion to a minimum.
thank you again and hopefully either an explanation of why it's designed to be this way or a modification can be made w/o too much effort.

Re: enable full left pane cursor scrolling for wide folder boxes
Hi,
issue confirmed. However, not easy to solve. For the time being I can only suggest to rename the folder in the list instead of in the tree. Especially the Edit Item Names (new in v9.50.0003) interface gives you virtually unlimited horizontal space.

thank you for the acknowledgment.
if i am the only one who would find such a mod useful, you need not dedicate too much of your resources to solve it.
