Yes, there are possibilities. I'm playing with the idea to mirror the Y just like in the current icon. (See image)

Personally, I think that's an awful font. I was imagining more of a blocky sans serif font with a medium to thick face.

I just took the next best font... no worries... ... first the final name decision, then fonts....

In regards to FlexyFiles, I have to say I don't like it. Hearing/saying it makes me think it has something to do with a little girl. Perhaps something like "Sony's My First File Manager (for girls!)".

As for FilesAtWork, I also don't like it. It sounds more like a caption, or music band name, than it does an app.


I would definitely suggest putting them both aside and continuing the search.

Which prompted me now to think of something based on that: 2PEx or alternative TwoPEx...short, simple, unique, and describes what it is!

Or we could add on a 'y' to retain the XY history link as 2PExy / TwoPExy...but too sexy?

Ok, so maybe that's a tiny bit of a stretch but "Ex" is at least the start of Explorer...and as part of a phrase: Two pane explorer

FlexyFiles --> and how is that descriptive of what it is? I asked someone else who said " i might guess it's, um, something that opens any file." which isn't exactly what what its main goal is.

Now do any of these other FM names really make you think they are a FM? :
Altap Salamander (Sounds like a reptile thing!) / NexusFile (huh?) / WinSCP (sounds like a FTP!) / FAR Manager (FAR could be anything!) / ForkLift (Mac only but still!) / Thunar (Unix - know for odd names)

And 2PEx/TwoPEx can be said in 2 quick parts; XYplorer takes 4.

Well, 2 years onwards, and it's still called "XYplorer".

BUT ...

Now, that the beast is going polyglot it's time to bring this topic back on the table!

I have strong evidence that neither Brazilians, nor French, nor Germans have the faintest idea how to pronounce "XYplorer"! And I bet the list is much longer. Well, even Americans are known to be flip-flopping between eks-wai-plorer, zai-plorer, zi-plorer and who knows what. It's a articulatory catastrophe! And this is VERY BAD FOR BUSINESS.

If I ever rename the thing, then NOW, when the new languages come out!

I know it's madness to rename a globally successful product, but, hey, it's still 2 steps to world domination (TC and DO are still no 1 and no 2), so the situation could be worse (madder).

But, as always, I give you a fair chance to destroy my dreams and tell how dumb I am.
So, what's your opinion now on "FlexyFiles"???

Concerning Don's question, my only point against FlexyFiles is: it's still a bit hard to pronounce for Brazilian customers (the 'files' part) and people will certainly write it wrong 'flexifiles', or worse.

Would be a start setting 'FM' as a radical to define that 'whatever-easy-to-speak' word is ultimately a File Manager, and 'FM' being easy to pronounce around the world...?
