don't mean to butt in - and you are probably aware of this but:
open-source "Universal Viewer" - (which I've integrated into Xy as my quick viewer)
with a couple of plugins - does MO 2003 word and excel files (and 2007 files in text format) see at: http://www.uvviewsoft.com/index.htm

No.admin wrote:I think where there are EXCEL files I can expect EXCEL is installed.
MS created these viewers just for users needing to view an office-file, but not owning office.
Sometimes I download Word-, Excel- or Powerpoint-files from internet.
I've sent such files myself to other people - and has to hear that they couldn't open them.
For me it's like .pdf-files: if you don't have acrobat you have adobe reader (or such) to view...
Sad to say: that's right. People tend to ignore the possibilities.admin wrote:But I cannot expect an EXCEL viewer is installed.
Maybe still more right: as no one else leaves a comment, no one seems interested. So in the end it really might not be worth the effort...

Basically this seems very good...Joso wrote:don't mean to butt in - and you are probably aware of this but:

...but if I understand correct, it lacks MS-Office files in the free version - and only office2007-files can be added by plugin?
Another part: all windows versions - but only 32bit?
Everything else sounds very good (for me).

Re: new office preview
Here's a little test app for DOC/DOCX preview. This is for folks where the Office preview does not work (because you get the bloody Download dialog instead).
- unpack the zip to some temp folder
- pack some of your DOC/DOCX files in that folder
- run the app (DocPreviewTest.exe)
- click the top button (<< Open Doc...) and select a DOC/DOCX
- does it preview in the dark grey field within the app?
PS: of course you need to have Word installed!
EDIT: See later version here: http://www.xyplorer.com/xyfc/viewtopic. ... 640#p51640

Yup, works here. Ctrl-wheel allows me to zoom (default doesn't show the full width).admin wrote:- unpack the zip to some temp folder

However:
- it sometimes takes a long time to open the doc (first time) -- actually sometimes it hangs the program
- when I close the doc, it sometimes asks me if I want to save changes, even when I didn't think I made any changes...
Looks interesting!

OK, my office preview works in XY but still i wanted to try this on Win7 32-bit. But it gives an error when i run DocPreviewTest.exe. Error:admin wrote:Here's a little test app for DOC/DOCX preview. Re: new office preview
Ah, OK, never mind, that will be no problem with XY. I will not provide the missing file with the test app because it has to be registered...serendipity wrote:OK, my office preview works in XY but still i wanted to try this on Win7 32-bit. Pity, but beyond my control I'm afraid. Do you see any patterns with that "sometimes"?avsfan wrote:Yup, works here. Ctrl-wheel allows me to zoom (default doesn't show the full width).admin wrote:- unpack the zip to some temp folder

Just to make sure, the XY Office preview does not work on your system (you get download dialog instead)? What Office version do you have?avsfan wrote:Yup, works here. Ctrl-wheel allows me to zoom (default doesn't show the full width).admin wrote:- unpack the zip to some temp folder

- also views swf, pdf, nfo, even dll & icons imbedded in exe files - very cool.

Re: new office preview
I see, but it opens a separate Window, right? It would be nice if it would be possible to embed it into the preview tab. That's my idea of "integrate".Joso wrote:User Definded Commandsadmin wrote:What do you mean by "integrated"? how?Joso wrote:don't mean to butt in - and you are probably aware of this but:

Re: new office preview
NEW VERSION 1.00.0003 (does not need COMDLG32.OCX anymore!)

App works fine, but word does not open inside the grey field. It opens separately as word doc.admin wrote: - does it preview in the dark grey field within the app?

Re: new office preview
Oh, that's bad. Which version of Office? Can you tell me the text in the word doc's title bar (or simply post a screenshot)?serendipity wrote:App works fine, but word does not open inside the grey field. Win7 pro 32-bit
I expect it to be [file title] - Microsoft Word.
