I agree that this would be a nice enhancement -- if I don't have something selected and change the sort order, it'd be nice to have the list scroll to the top when changing the sort order.

However, as grindax also says, if an item is selected, the current behavior works great.

In other words, if no item is the active selection, please have the scrolling behave as though "Configuration | General | Keep focused item in view after sorting" is turned off.

When clicking on a column header with no active selection, I consider that to be a new sort for something new I'm interested in. Therefore I'd expect the list to automatically scroll right to the top.

Also, I notice that navigating into a folder automatically scrolls down to the last folder downstream that was entered within that folder. Even if it was deselected beforehand (before moving up) or if I'd manually scrolled to the top before going up. I expect to be at the top of the list, rather than automatically scrolled down to the old location that I went to in the past.

Let's say I'm inside the Windows folder. Now I double-click on system32 to go inside there. Then I navigate up a level so I'm back at C:\Windows.

At this point, system32 is in view and is currently highlighted. So far so good.

Now I'm no longer interested in system32. So I click in whitespace to deselect it. I then scroll up the list to have a look what else is in the Windows folder, and then when I'm done I navigate up a level so I'm back at C:\

Then later I go back into the Windows folder. XYplorer automatically scrolls me back down to system32 so that it's in view. Even though I have no interest in system32 right now. I'd expect that I should be right up at the top of the Windows folder.

All this only happens when you navigate by history (which you should have mentioned). It cannot be turned off currently.

Not sure I follow. I'm doing all my navigating by double-clicking on folder names to go into them and double-clicking on whitespace to go up.

Does that change how this should work, i.e. does it invalidate my example?

Oh yes, my fault. This is also a feature that cannot be turned off currently. But I see it can be irritating. Note that it only happens when you travel by list (double-clicking /ENTER on folder names). Going to Windows via Tree would not select System32.

Out of curiosity, why is a focused item disregarded in this situation, but in a case mentioned here: http://www.xyplorer.com/xyfc/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=5334 it plays a big role? I'm just a bit confused about this inconsistency...

I'm not sure I've followed what behavior you're looking for opinions on, but I think I like it. (Auto-Focusing the last used folder when navigating through the list pane?)
