move to opposite pane

I am a new user of XYplorer and a longtime user of xplorer2. One of the features that I use in x2 ALOT is moving/copying files between panes.

When I press the move/copy button the it presents 3 options (opposite pane, different tab w/dropdown, browse) along with some copying options via an options button.

I have mine defaulted to opposite pane. So copying/moving is a 2 mouse button process.

Can I achieve something like this in XYplorer?

Hi & welcome Jay,

you can quite easily make this a 1-click thing by adding a user button to the toolbar.

1. menu Tools / Customize Toolbar...: Add a User Button from the bottom of the left list.

2. Edit the button as shown in the attached shot. You can also add an icon if you got one.

BTW, #803 is the command ID for Move To Other Pane. You can retrieve these numbers from The Customize Keyboard Shortcuts dialog.

Sure, everything (that has a command ID or any way to script it) can be invoked by a user button.

Hey I just tried to set a hotkey for "copy to other pane" => assigned Alt-C
But nothing happens

Is it not this:
- I select one file in pane A
- I press Alt-c
- item gets copied to 2nd Pane

nothing happening here..
EDIT: Must be the "Alt" assignment - as just using C works.. Isn't ALT workin generally?

I'm not sure if this is the reason or not, but generally ALT is reserved for menu shortcuts, etc (though I was thinking XY didn't have this limitation). Most (or at least many) applications don't allow you to customize the ALT keystrokes for this reason...

However, I agree that as I almost never use the ALT key to get to the main menus, having the ability to map them for XY would be very nice....

As I don't know if it's a feature or a bug, I'll post it in this thread as it fits the topic.

Let's say I have only ONE pane open.
If I execute the command/shortcut for "moving a file to the "other" pane", it still moves the file to the "other" pane - which is currently invisible to the user.
I think that might be legitimate from a logical point of view, but I think it is quite dangerous as I normally don't wanna copy/move to an invisible location.
Accidently moving an item this way results in a confused operator and at least one missing file/folder ..

What do u think? Maybe an optional checkbox in the config securing against sth like that to happen?

I think it's pretty normal to move stuff to invisible locations. I do it all the time. But I've heard that old school Dual Pane users tend to have a psychological problem with it. Tip: Keep the other pane open always.

btw I don't talk about conscious moving, but about unconscious/accidental. Thats my issue.
Thats the same reason I wrote in another thread - I wanna disable LMB dragging. It's just too dangerous.

10 weeks it works w/o any problem, and then I accidently drag one file and don't recognize it - thats too dangerous here..

sure. never played with this yet, but sounds nice.
Anyhow what does undo help me if I don't realize I have accidentally dragged some file away? Or if I realize it one week later?

well btw it's not thaaat probable that I move sth. to another pane now, as my keyboard shortcut can not be pressed too accidentally .
..and for dragging LMB I now found how to switch it off, actually

My point of view here, too...

I also just disabled moving with left mouse button. As I don't use it, (I always use right button,) and now can't use it by accident.

If I wouldn't want to move to (possibly hidden) other pane by accident, I would delete the shortcut, hide toolbar-button or whatever. But I want them - so I'll let them stay.
