Before 9.0 XYplorer had the same renaming behaviour as windows explorer. If you renamed to a duplicate, it offered to rename it to a unique new filename (by adding a number to the end). I need this behaviour a lot because I do a lot of manual renaming where this happens! Please, does anyone know how I can get this behaviour back into XYplorer? ATM it just says "File already exists" etc. and I have to manually create a unique file name.
Thanks,
MCS

Not sure what you mean because AFAIK nothing has changed here. What kind of copy do you mean? Menu File | Duplicate | Copy Here with Suffix Number... should do what you want.

Re: Renaming | How to get unique name renaming duplicate?
Ok, I'll explain in simplified terms.
I have a folder with two files, TULIP.JPG and ROSE.JPG. I want to rename both files to FLOWER.JPG. So I rename the first one without problems. When renaming the second one I get an error "An item with the same name already exists." Windows explorer does not give me this error, it gives me a popup where I can quickly click "create unique name and keep both files" which renames the second file to FLOWER(1).JPG. So I have FLOWER.JPG and FLOWER(1).JPG
In reality I have a folder with a thousand files that need this kind of treatment and that popup window that automaticall writes "(1)" saves me very, very much time.
In XYplorer 8.x and earlier the unique name behaviour worked but 9.x changed it and now I get the "An item with the same name already exists" -error.
Thanks for help.
PS: I cannot use any kind of batch tools in this, I have to manually check each file's contents first and then rename it accordingly, that's why this is difficult for me.

I cannot see that behavior in XY 8.* (just tested it). And I don't think it ever existed.MCS wrote:Ok, I'll explain in simplified terms.
