Hi,
I read on your website here that XYplorer only installs 10 files in C:\Program Files\XYplorer folder and does not install any other file anywhere on the system.
On my computer, inside C:\Users\my username\AppData\Roaming\
there is an XYplorer folder, with a bunch of files in it (see jpg below). Is this normal?

Yes, these changes have been made recently to conform to the rules of UAC (User Account Control) in Vista and later.
You are right that I have to adjust the claim about "anywhere on the system". Thanks!

BTW, if your current app data path is NOT that roaming folder (and I hope it is not), then you can delete the XYplorer sub folder inside C:\Users\my username\AppData\Roaming\. Roaming was used by the system before XY was UAC compliant.

OK, the website says "No further files are added anywhere to your system outside the application folder and application data folder.". This is true for 9.00 and needs no updating. Roaming was used by the system before XY was UAC compliant.Raza0007 wrote:Hi,

Thanks for the reply.
I am slightly confused with your last two posts. Did you mean this XYplorer folder inside the Roaming folder was important. Can I safely delete this folder? I am not using UAC, it is disabled on my system.

I believe what he meant was that the Roaming was an interim situation and that with newest vers, it's not used...so when you save your settings, which folder gets updated? Look at timestamps of files...if it's not Roaming that is modified, then those files are deletable with no effect.Raza0007 wrote: Did you mean this XYplorer folder inside the Roaming folder was important. Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!
(XP on laptop with touchpad and thus NO mouse!) Using latest beta vers when possible.

As i understood Don, and if you use an mentioned recent beta build of XY: yes.Raza0007 wrote:Can I safely delete this folder?
Code: Select all
v8.80.0314 - 2010-02-19 14:48
*** More UAC related changes!Code: Select all
v8.90.0009 - 2010-03-19 15:58
* Upgrading Application Data from a pre-8.90 version: Now also data
that hang out in Vista/W7's VirtualStore are correctly auto-
upgraded to a UAC conforming app data path. But you have several possibilities to check this your own:
In XYplorer you can use menu "Go" to go to applications folder, and in newer betas to go to data folder too.
OR
In XYplorer use menu "Tools > Configuration..." and on "Startup & Exit"-page you will see where your current XY files are located.
OR
use this script
Code: Select all
"Go to XY folder"
goto "<xypath>";
"Go to XY data"
goto "<xydata>";As an other work around you can
- close XY
- rename the XYplorer folder under C:\Users\my username\AppData\Roaming\
- start XY and see if your settings are still there and if XY works as it should.
If you see you don't need the XYplorer folder under C:\Users\my username\AppData\Roaming\
you can delete them after you have worked fine without them for a few days.

Re: XYplorer installed files location
Thanks for the suggestions guys. I did further checking and found out that my current XYplorer settings folder is in fact the "AppData\Roaming\XYplorer\" folder. So I guess, I can not delete it.
So, if it is not being used in the newest versions, then next time, instead of updating XYplorer I will do a clean install instead and hopefully then I will have only one XYplorer folder (C:\Program Files\XYplorer) on my system.
Right now I do not want to lose and redo all my settings.
