XYplorer changes search folder as soon as search starts!

Post by spinner »

XYplorer 4.40.0040. XP Pro + SP2. Intermittent problem.
"Autocomplete Name And Location Field" is OFF.
"Remember Find Mode Between Sessions" is ON.

---------

I launch XYplorer from a shortcut which specifies a start directory. XYplorer launches fine and the directory shown in the Location field is correct and is the same as the directory shown in yellow the folder tree and where the cursor focus is. All ok.

Sometimes when I key in a new filename in the Name field and press Find Now (or ENTER) the directory in Location changes to another folder not far away and the search is done withi this other folder.

Has anyone experienced something similar?

I do not always get this but just now I closed XYplorer after searching for "typing" in a particular folder (the one which XYplorer loads to using my default). I then closed XYplorer and relaunched it about 2 minutes later. I wanted exactly the same search so I just press Find Now and then immdeiately the Location entry changed from:
D:\downloaded files===
to
D:\DOWNLOADED FILES ===\# FILE SHARING DOWNLOADS\
and then the search started.

Is this a known problem?

I cannot reproduce your problem, but it might be related to the built-in auto-complete of Windows comboboxes: if you type something into the edit field and then open the dropdown list (click the arrow on the right end), the edit field will be set to the first entry that matches what you have typed so far.

I will try and get better data.

Although it is not related to autocomplete as I have that turned off.

You have turned off my autocomplete but you cannot turn off Windows autocomplete.

My mistake in mixing up windows and XYplorer autocomplete.

Tweakui (in the Common Dialogs section) can enable/disable Win XP autocomplete. (Assuming we are now talking about the same thing.)

However I do not see the usual list of options that I might see in XP autocomplete and which I would chose from.
