Search Tab

Post by lole »

Hi,

I noticed one new thing with Search Tabs today. After you changed the behaivor on how Current, New, and Search Results behaves, I noticed (for me) stranges behaivor by XYplorer.

I have 2 Search Tabs which I have renamed and locked, when I now click on one off the search tabs and have Search results selected. XYplorer will now always open a new search result tab.
If I choose current, XYplorer do not open a new tab.

I think it is the correct behaivor of XYplorer after reading the other post about this new behaivor.

Now to my wish.
Is it possibly to have selection of current/new/search results per tab. One tab has current selected, another tab maybe new and a third tab has search results. Now it is the same for all tabs.
What I want to do is to have search tabs set to different locations and when I click on a tab I will be on the right location and can type in what I want to search for.

Ok, interesting. I invite others to discuss this, because I have currently even less time than normally.......

Lars-Olaf: Since private msg is disabled here, is there some way we could either ICQ or YM, because I'd like to clarify in my mind exactly what you meant. I'm presuming English is your second lang, and post is very well written, but some things were a bit unclear to me. Thanks.

You can get in touch with me easily...but to avoid spam, I'll just say: Google "chatmroomcc" as I'm the owner/moderator there and use email listed there.

I think it would make sense yes, since a tab remember everything else about the search (Name, Location, Dates, Sizes, etc)

In the same idea, the destination of a search could also be saved in Templates, as I dont think its the case now.

I've just had a nice ICQ session with Lars, and now I fully understand what he wants...to keep/save the selected output option for EACH tab, so you can have two tabs with "Current" and third with "SR"...and not have to keep reselecting it when swapping between tabs. I presume the default for any tabs created by new/SR could be the option from the 'parent' tab.

For reference, here's the bulk of the ICQ session:

Code: Select all

[10:12] WHR76: ...I've read your post 3 times and still dont follow your wish...
[10:12] Ludde: Try to explainit better.
[10:17] Ludde: What I have is 2 tabs which I am using for searching. One tab is only searching from a place called O:\QAvdelning\Matberedningar\ and below (Name Matberedningar). The other tab is set to search from M:\Sortimentsamordning\ (Name Sortimentsamordning). Both tabs are locked. The reason have this configuration is that there are documents in both places I need to be able to search after. In the first tab is is only pdf files and on the other tab it is only excel files.
[10:17] Ludde: Are you with me so far?
[10:18] WHR76: yes...so far...ok..
[10:22] Ludde: When I go to either tab Matberedningar or Sortimentsamordning I want do a search and the result should be in that tb. But if I am in another tab which I am using to browse my disks and do a search, I want the result be send to the Searcg Result tab (if Search results was selected).
[10:22] Ludde: Okay??
[10:24] WHR76: yes...so when you are in 3rd tab, you then have to pick SR as output option but use "Current" on others...correct?
[10:24] Ludde: Yes!
[10:25] WHR76: so what is the problem then? have we gotten there yet?
[10:29] WHR76: I think I may now have an idea what you want but not sure...
[10:29] Ludde: The problem with new behaivor of XY, is that when I am in the 3rd tab the output are SR and when I am select the 1st tab XY creates a new tab called Search results. I want to set the 1st and 2nd tab to current and the 3rd to SR. For now if the output is set to current it affects all tabs.
[10:31] WHR76: :-) That's what I was starting to guess at! You want the selected option to be "private" and remembered on each tab, correct?
[10:31] Ludde: Yes!
[10:32] WHR76: As others say: Ah-so! Now I see..
[10:33] WHR76: I'm sorry but I didn't quite see/follow that from your XY post.
[10:34] WHR76: But after what you said here, now I can see that makes sense.
[10:34] Ludde: I am glad you think so, now is time to try to convince Donald too.
[10:35] WHR76: yes, because the search data is saved/kept for each tab, the output options should be also.
[10:36] Ludde: This way to work saved me lot of times the last 6 month. I use XY in way I explained before th e change
[10:36] WHR76: He has said he's busy with some personal matters right now in a private email..thats all I'll say..
[10:37] Ludde: I can wait, I have solved it by using current but I will remember him in a few weeks
[10:38] WHR76: And as a new user, I certainly did NOT want to mess up other users, but the way it worked was VERY odd to me! As "New" didn't get new tab messed me up!
[10:41] Ludde: You did not mess it up for me. Sure your suggestion gave a result that I did not expected, but the change is doing the the search is working as it stand . Create a new tab/current or in the search tab. The way I was using the search tab was probably nothing Donald was thinking about. It is therefore I write my post under wishes.
[10:44] WHR76: I'm VERY happy to have cleared this up..I will then post most of this to XY forum thread so others can see it, which should help everyone follow it. I think it's a very sensible request. Maybe Don will be able to do this sometime soon.
[10:46] WHR76: Because I kept losing my current data when I thought I should get a new tab.
