XYplorer makes Langa List today!

Post by DennisR »

Congrats! As a rule, only the best apps get mentioned there. Keep up the good work.
For those who don't know who Fred Langa is, see http://langa.com/newsletters/2006/2006-01-23.htm

Yes, MY submission made it! :D
BUT, He didn't GET the point!
So I'll have to try and work on that!

Update:
Here's the email I just sent Fred:
Hi!

I saw that you published my email about XYplorer in current. Thanks VERY much! :)

However, in your commentary, it seems that you may have missed the points of exactly WHY this product is much better than Windows Explorer for some tasks! So I'd like to try again, ok?
You wrote the ">" parts, my comments are after:

+++++++++++++++++
>But note that Windows Search's "advanced" functions let you do a lot of that, too. Want a file
>from 65 days ago? In "Advanced," select the "When was it modified" option, and type in the
>date for 65 days ago as both the start and end date for the search. the Search will then show
>you all files created on that one date.

This method requires one to manually calculate the date of 65 days ago! Now suppose you wanted to find all files from 45-60 days ago. You then have to compute two dates. XYplorer will actually list ALL the files in selected folders with the AGE in a column, if desired. So you can simply look at that column. No calculations needed! Nice and easy! See http://www.xyplorer.com/images/shots/hilitefolders.png

>Likewise, want all files created in the last hour? Do the same search as above, using today's
>date as the start and end date. When the search completes, click the Date bar of the results
>window to sort the list with the newest files on top; check the time stamps to select files from
>any period within the day.

This may give you hundreds or thousands of files in the initial listing. But XYplorer allows one to filter results so ONLY ones you see in results are exactly those that meet the criteria. It allows you to pick EXACT start and stop times for search, or use predefined ones, or pick last time period, such as last "nn" minutes or hours or days. This ability to quickly and easily locate and list ONLY the files created in last 15 minutes, for example, is what I needed and could not find in any other freeware product. See http://www.xyplorer.com/images/shots/findfiles_date.png

>Third party tools are fine, and often let you do more than the built-in tools. But sometimes, the
>built-in tools are fine by themselves!

As I hope I've clarified, the built-in tools may allow one to do these tasks, but do not make it as easy and convenient, or results as clear and concise, as XYplorer does.

Thanks and hope this feedback will help you understand why I became so interested in sharing info about this program.

I don't know Fred, but apparently everybody else knows him. So that's really great! :D Ok, he did not get it, he's a busy man... hopefully he takes a 2nd look.

So I take it that you got some definite activity from that newsletter mention? :?:
It has quite a decent readership, it would seem...
