Interface Colors not saved

Post by dgw »

version 8.80.0300. Save settings on exit is checked.
I just spent some time setting these colors the way I wanted. I closed XY and re-started and they are all gone. I had also changed some of the settings under General and Advanced and they seem to still be set the way I changed them. What have I missed that will save these changes? I have done this with previous versions and it worked. One difference is I am now running Win 7, and before was running XP. I don't have any Win 7 compatibility settings turned on. I am an administrator on the PC.

Hard to say what's been causing this. Vista/Win 7 introduced an additional level of complication to the file system that makes debugging this stuff harder than it ever was. But it could also been caused by other things.

Is it just the Interface Colors? Do the other settings stick?

Here is what I know. I changed several check boxes in General and Advanced, checking some and un-checking others. I am pretty sure they all stuck.
In Color Filters I turned on the check box to apply to the list, it did not stick.
In File Info Tips I checked both the Show file and Show MP3 check boxes, they did not stick.
In Tabs I changed On dbl-click to open new tab, that stuck. I also checked the Yellow highlight... and that stuck, but I did not change the Visual Style.

In Interface Colors, besides changing many of the colors, I also checked Beveled border, Highlight Focused item, Highlight select4ed rows, and Show grid. None of them stuck.

I guess you are telling me its not me. Is anybody having success with colors in Win 7?

I just changed Open Tab Text in Interface Colors and checked Apply...to List in Color Filters, quit and restarted XY, and they stuck. I would guess this is making debugging a real bear. both of these did not stick before.

I have some more information to add to this. I updated to 8.80.0300, and left the start XY check box checked so the install started XY. XY started with large icons. I made the changes I described in the first post and closed XY. I started again and XY came up with small icons, which is how I had it configured before I updated. At this point some of the changes I had made were lost. Then I applied some of those changes again and they were not lost.

I'm not suggesting the icon setting had anything to do with this, rather that the initial run after an update uses some different configuration settings than those in the ini file.

OK, this looks like UAC is making trouble again. However, I think in the current BETA version (and soon in 8.90) this issue should been handled better.
