copying and keeping the dates unchanged

Post by beethoven »

Is there any way to copy or cut/paste files from one location to another location without affecting the attributes of the file? I noticed if I copy a letter from my usb stick to the normal folder that the modified date will remain correct but the creating date becomes the date of copying. I understand that I do create a new file on this date but if there is a way to copy the file with the original creating date I would prefer that.

As was pointed out to me just a day or so ago in the W2K thread, the http://88.191.26.34/XYwiki/index.php/Rich_Operations can be used for that, I believe...
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!
(XP on laptop with touchpad and thus NO mouse!) Using latest beta vers when possible.

No, sorry, but Rich Operations has nothing to do with that.

The Backup functions will do what you want. See screen shot for configuration options.

thanks - that's what I was looking for. I just did not understand the difference between rightclick and drop and rightclick and backup.

I know that "backup" is not an ideal name for this function. In future this functionality will be incorporated in XYcopy.
