Hey there - just found Xyplorer today. First File Manager which may really replace my explorer. Not that´poor Win 3.11 look most of them have, and Tabs maybe very effective for File Management.
But I have some wishes/Requests ^^
1st:
I'd really like a Total Commander like File-Compareism - so I could finally remove TC from my HD, cause thats the only task I'm using it for ^^
2nd:
An Integrated Hex Editor would be a kind of nice ^^
3rd:
Are there any plans for Multi-language Support?
4th:
Some (Sub-) Menu are pretty overloaded to me, maybe you could ad the ability to costumize my own menu?!
sry If something of this is already there and I just didnt find it ^^
bye

Hi and welcome to the XY forums!wfdgdfgt wrote:Hey there - just found Xyplorer today. First File Manager which may really replace my explorer. Not that´poor Win 3.11 look most of them have, and Tabs maybe very effective for File Management.
Ok...I'll try to address your list...since at least your list isn't that long (or unfriendly as some new users have been)...and I'm presuming you did some searching, right? But I have some wishes/Requests ^^
File compare is on the Roadmap at http://www.xyplorer.com/xyfc/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=830 but admitedly near the bottom...so in the meantime, here's one idea: http://www.xyplorer.com/xyfc/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=2461.1st:
I'd really like a Total Commander like File-Compareism - so I could finally remove TC from my HD, cause thats the only task I'm using it for ^^
There are some others as well I believe...maybe http://www.xyplorer.com/xyfc/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=4420 or http://www.xyplorer.com/xyfc/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=4326 may also be useful?
Sorry, but XY is a file manager and not file editor...see http://www.xyplorer.com/xyfc/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=4351 for more on this topic...2nd:

Again, the answer is no as shown in http://www.xyplorer.com/xyfc/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=26673rd:
Are there any plans for Multi-language Support?
This (among other items) has been the subject of some recent heated discussion as seen in http://www.xyplorer.com/xyfc/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=4405 but I do recall some old discussion of this as being looked at in the future.4th:
Some (Sub-) Menu are pretty overloaded to me, maybe you could ad the ability to costumize my own menu?!
It's sometimes hard to guess what keywords to search for so I've got a "inventory" of likely words that make it a bit easier...that, plus 4 yrs of history here...sry If something of this is already there and I just didnt find it ^^
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!

Re: File Compare & Hexeditor, Multi-Language, Editable Menus
well, first of all, thank you ^^
Regarding File Comparism, I think your talking about "Find Dupes"? well, its not really the same "Find Dupes" maybe just calculating CRC/MD5/SHA and same same or not, TC File Comparism (as you might know) is far on top of that.....
The multi-language stuff is a kind of wired, with community tribute it should be quite easy, taking global vars for all the strings and reading a langfile on startup - cant imagine whats the point making such an Interface - of course, translating is a bunch of work, but reading a langfile and changings the vars....
mmm whatever

You're welcome! I tried to address your iyems as best I could.wfdgdfgt wrote:well, first of all, thank you ^^
I've read about TC a bit but never have actually used it (that I recall)...what I was pointing out was that there are other compare products available which XY can be adapted to interface with until such time that XY's built-in compare gets more robust...now will it ever match the standalone appl's? Maybe...maybe not...or will it match TC's? Way too soon to know that.Regarding File Comparism, I think your talking about "Find Dupes"? well, its not really the same "Find Dupes" maybe just calculating CRC/MD5/SHA and same same or not, TC File Comparism (as you might know) is far on top of that.....
The problem that isn't readily apparent with multi-lang is the varying lengths of the strings and how that affects the GUI...it may be 20 chars in English but 30 chars in another and that 10 char space may muck up the layout...that's another major reason why Don is hesitant to do it...yes, users could help with translate but then there's the maintenace of this...plus, I've seen installs that splatter dozens of lang files on install even though I said "English" and I'd not want XY to do that. The multi-language stuff is a kind of wired, with community tribute it should be quite easy, taking global vars for all the strings and reading a langfile on startup - cant imagine whats the point making such an Interface - of course, translating is a bunch of work, but reading a langfile and changings the vars....

well, usually its a translators task to use words which match the GUI - how should someone maintanance a language (s)he doesnt speak ^^
...
XYploere has quite a lot of files, a "lang" subdir would also keep the root dir clean...
whatever

Just so you know...all I'm trying to do here is give you what I've learned from my time here...there are times when we may disagree with Don's approach, but mostly we agree and given that he's the sole author, he has the final say.wfdgdfgt wrote:whatever
I'm not saying you don't have a valid request, but as you're new on this forum, I'm providing some background of what's transpired already and that's the best I can do.
