Special Folders: Could users select either seq or inclusion

Yes, it's me again...the newest "PITA" ( )

...but ran into this situation: Having the "Special Folders" is quite handy ...BUT...a few of those listed are NOT special to me...and get in the way...as "My Computer" and "Desktop" are just about always visible to me since I tend to always have tree shown...
thus, IF one could re-arrange the seq of "SF" so the ones I use most like System or Temp could be at top, that would be an aid...maybe like one can re-seq shortcuts/lists of pgms within WIN Start? That'd work...plus ability to add/del would help also.

Yes, I could make them as Favorites but I'm reserving that for data or non-sys folders...

Just another thought to consider IF you're thinking of what to do next to make it even better. If it doesn't happen, I won't mind...XY still outshines the alternatives!

damn! Well I for one would disagree, as I quite often use "My Computer"
Sure it's on the tree, just like everything else, but when I need to go there quickly it's so much easier to right-click/My Computer

Bah, already gone uh.. well thank God I can make it a favorite folder (btw, i can do that but it doesn't have the "Mark" submenu on its context menu).

And a bit off-topic (and dupe ), but I think the "Toggle favorite file" menuitem would make more sense on context-menu (like under Rename Special) than on the ctxt menu on a blank zone of the treeview (which is very unnatural for the toggle option).

Sure it's on the tree, just like everything else, but when I need to go there quickly it's so much easier to right-click/My Computer

You find that easy??? Just click the Home key, that's easy.

Yes I do Especially cause I usually right-click to get my fav folders list, so having MyC. there is easy to me, as I mostly move using either the scroll or that feature so....
And the Home key only works if the tree has focus, which ain't the case most of the time for me; besides as stated before I like it better as a mouse action.

Nope, there is no mark on the ctxt menu of a file ! I meant to toggle the favorite file, right-now we have to select the file, and then right-click on an empty zone in the treeview Which is very unnatural I think. The list of fav files have to be there, but the toggle option whould be on the ctxt menu on a file

Hm hm. Ok, I think i was a bit too fast here. What j_c_hallgren wanted (configurable list) is not going to be (no time ), so I rewind it to the previuos state, and j_c_hallgren has to live with a somewhat longer menu -- no big deal, is it?

Ok, if you find a better name for "Move/Copy/Backup To" I'll put your "Toggle favorite file" there and throw in a "Run with parameters..."

Sometimes you're just a bit too quick to update XY!
I was kinda throwing the idea out and seeing what others thought..
And suggesting a method that would work for all but having NO idea of what time/coding it would take...and that's perfectly fine if you're busy.

Obviously, we all use the product differently so maybe using this forum to get a better consensus of your current power users before change (unless it's a brand new feature) might be prudent.

I certainly DON'T want to muck up other users! Just making a few suggestions based on my experience..


FYI: Any feature/option that relies on RIGHT-click is definitely a bit more difficult to use when using a touch-pad as I do 99.9%...I can tap it to left click, but right-click requires a key in most cases...just a thing to consider.

No problem. I always try to consider all pros and cons before I change something:
(a) Do I like it?
(b) Do the most qualified users like it?
(c) Do the majority of all users like it?

Usually I find the right decisions, but it happened before that I changed my mind.

Yes, I'm aware of it. But there should be a context menu key on every keyboard...

Re: Context Menu key -> I'm not aware of any specific key that does that on mine...I do have a set of "mouse buttons" below my touchpad, but I try to avoid using them when possible, as I then have to move my finger off the pad area...

What this DID cause me to do was check my TP config , and set-up a zone in upper left that simulates the Right-click...I'd forgotten about that on this laptop ...had it somewhat diff on old one...THANKS for the nudge!

OH! THAT one! Given that I've spent most (99.9%+) of last 4+ yrs on a Dell laptop keyboard, and they have less keys than regular, I'd totally forgotten about THAT key! I had to look at my old desktop keyboard to see it...

I only use a keyboard at library or when at friends house...so us laptop-er's are "key challenged", I guess one could say...

Anyway, now that I can tap upper left corner of TP to simulate it, it'll help a bit...however, I have to have cursor on the item/file to be acted on, so it's not quite the same as KB.

Actually, I think you should not change anything in the Copy/Move/Backup To menu, and not add the new entries there either.
Because the two new ones, run w/ params & toggle fav file, are for files only, while the Copy/etc is for both files & folders

So I think you should add thoose as new items only on the context menu of a file.

Yes.... my main concern here is space rather than semantics. The context menu should not get too high. Maybe one other submenu item would fit, and it should contain whatever commands the future will bring. So it should be a match-all category like "Miscellaneous", "Other", "More", "Advanced"...
