(See attached screenshot)
Sometimes when double-clicking a folder in the tree to expand its subfolders, only the first several folders are displayed. Even hitting F5 doesn't cause it to reparse or refresh the tree. For example, in the attached screenshot, I'm running XYplorer 8.80 under Windows 7, browsing my user folder (named "User") under a dual-booted XP installation on a different partition. I see here only the first 5 subfolders, although this user folder should also have the subfolders "Desktop", "Favorites", "Local Settings", "My Documents", "Start Menu", as well as several others. And when I double-clicked the "Application Data" folder, I see only the first 6 subfolders under that, although as is shown in the screenshot, there should be 83 subfolders.
Opening another XYplorer window simultaneously and repeating this series of actions works correctly (all subfolders are shown in the tree after a very short delay).
I've noticed this intermittently in XYplorer 8.80 under Windows 7, and it seems to me it was present back in the later 7.x versions as well (running under Vista). Shouldn't hitting F5 force a reparse of the folder and redraw of the tree view? Is there any other "quick fix" to this besides closing the window and starting over?
Thanks for any help you can offer.
BTW, I just purchased the lifetime pro license on 12/31, and I'm very happy overall with the app. Nice work, it's a great replacement for Windows Explorer ;)

Re: Only first 5 or 6 subfolders shown in tree
XYplorer allows separate refresh of the file list and the tree. F5 forces a refresh of the file list, whereas F4 (Ctrl+Shift+F4: Rebuild Tree, Shift+F4: Refresh Current Folder, F4: Refresh Tree) refreshes the tree. These commands are also available in the View menu.ceravis wrote:Shouldn't hitting F5 force a reparse of the folder and redraw of the tree view? As to why XYplorer doesn't display all folders, you may wish to experiment with turning on the settings Configuration > General > Show hidden files and folders and Configuration > General > Show system files and folders. It doesn't explain why the second instance does work correctly, but the point in the file tree where you're experiencing this has lots of hidden and system folders.
Finally, activating Configuration > General > Expand tree nodes on single click causes folders to expand by clicking just once on them in the tree; it saves having to double-click or to aim precisely for the plus sign preceding the folder name.
Re: Only first 5 or 6 subfolders shown in tree
Thanks for the tips, especially about the F4 keyboard shortcuts - didn't realize the tree was refreshed separately from the file list. Next time I'll RTFM a little more thoroughly :) <smacks forehead>
I had already dug pretty deep into the configuration and enabled display of hidden and system files/folders - the folders in the tree view with dimmed icons are hidden.
But as you can see under the Application Data folder, there are many more folders shown in the file list on the right than are displayed under the folder branch in the tree view on the left - this is my main concern: there appears to be a bug in the subfolder display mechanism for the tree view. Like I said, it's intermittent, non-repeating, and relatively rare (I've only seen it happen 2 or 3 times in the month or so I've been using XYplorer), so I'll just try the tree refresh/rebuild shortcuts next time it happens to see if that's an effective workaround (so I don't have to open a new XYplorer window and renavigate to the target folder).
Thanks again!

Re: Only first 5 or 6 subfolders shown in tree
I never had this here but I vaguely remember seeing this issue reported here before (but don't remember what came out of this). It certainly looks like a bug but I don't see what could be causing it at the moment.ceravis wrote:Thanks for the tips, especially about the F4 keyboard shortcuts - didn't realize the tree was refreshed separately from the file list. I guess I'm better with text...ceravis wrote:I had already dug pretty deep into the configuration and enabled display of hidden and system files/folders - the folders in the tree view with dimmed icons are hidden.
Some questions which may narrow it down:ceravis wrote:But as you can see under the Application Data folder, there are many more folders shown in the file list on the right than are displayed under the folder branch in the tree view on the left - this is my main concern: there appears to be a bug in the subfolder display mechanism for the tree view. - does this problem happen in other locations in the folder tree? As I understand it, your example is a non-active Windows XP partition viewed from Windows 7. I can imagine things like ACL's and junctions getting in the way at that point in the tree if it weren't for the fact that a second instance of XYplorer does manage to show all folders;
- what security software do you use? (I once had Kaspersky interfering with Directory Opus enumerating the tree).
Re: Only first 5 or 6 subfolders shown in tree
The other couple times I remember this happening, I don't believe it was a "special" folder like this, although it may have been a mapped network location. Keep in mind that the other times in the past that it happened were on a Vista system at my work, totally unrelated to this Windows 7 system at my home. In any case, I'll follow up in this thread if/when it happens again to see if I can establish a pattern... but I'm sure the developer has higher priority bugs to squash than this one ;)nas8e9 wrote:- does this problem happen in other locations in the folder tree?
At the moment, just Prevx on this system. Though the other Vista system I experienced this on was running Kaspersky Workstation 6.x. Again, hard to determine a common thread.nas8e9 wrote:- what security software do you use?
Thanks again for the responses. If it happens again, I'll post more info in case it helps the developer track down the bug to [maybe] be fixed in a future version.

Re: Only first 5 or 6 subfolders shown in tree
By the way: as much as I understand, a sort of lack of authorization could lead to missing directories in tree *and* list, as authorization is of XY, not of it's tree or list - but it should not lead to different views, as long as there is no bug with it.
