Fast context buttons

Post by bvk »

One thing that would really help is having the idea of "Context buttons" that allow you to quickly change contexts.
For example, If I am taking care of digital photos, I will want the SD card reader open and network drives where I keep the photos open. If I'm designing a circuit board, I will want other folders open. If I am working on software for college, yet another set of folders would be appropriate. Context buttons would allow the user to set a button and tooltip that would making switching very quick.

Context buttons would allow saving current open folders and views. I made a photoshop mockup of what it might look like. Please take a look.

Thanks,

Vic Kovacs

The context information you refer to resides in subdirectories of <xydata>\Panes\. The possibility to let you (via GUI or script) actively change the active subdirectory was always part of this design -- I just never implemented it. It's on my list...

So youu're saying that what he wants can't already be done with scripting? I'm not a scripter but I've seen a lot done with it by others...isn't bvk just basically wanting to set tabs to another set of values?
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!
(XP on laptop with touchpad and thus NO mouse!) Using latest beta vers when possible.

No, I said I never implemented it. :) But the current data organization supports an easy implementation.

...that easy so we can have it soon, admin?
What I currently do is spreading sets of XY folders (installments) all over across partitions. Sometimes it becomes a complete pain in the neck to identify which task I have to continue in a priority list, or status of a task. "Save workflows" could be very convenient, and doing the changes by CKS/CTB would be a dream...

I'm afraid my to do list has some other things first.

But think about using the command line switch /ini= which allows you to select the app data path, while using one and the same XYplorer.exe installation.

Hmmmm... sounds good... a few shortcuts put into a folder, all of them having the name of the workflow, letting XY launch a few concurrent instances... I guess that should suffice, Admin. Less elegant, but convenient and easy to do. Thanks a lot!
