just tried this in 64bit os disable wow64 and if you drag and drop a file over another file with the same name a pop up doesn't come up asking you what to do it just overwrites the file.

That would be terrible. What locations? Any? Did you double check that the file really was overwritten (maybe it was a copy to another destination where that file did not exist)?

yea any location, at first i thought i copied to the wrong folder so i tried again and same thing happened, it definitly overwrote the old file since the modified date changed (luckly i wanted to overwrite the file), it only does it when wow64 is disabled

if it's enabled then the normal overwrite dialog popups up.

im using the latest beta.

This would be the end of this setting in XYplorer. Before I remove it: can anybody confirm this behavior (carefully!)?

I am on Vista x64 and cannot confirm this behaviour.

I disabled WOW64 redirection inside XYplorer. Drag and Drop or Ctrl+V and Crtl+C doesn't overwrite the old file.
The old file is not overwritten at all. If I double click on the old ASCII file the original content appears. Furthermore the modification date didn't change.

Seems the copy action was ignored by the OS.

Addendum:

If I reenable WOW64 the confirmation dialog prior to copying appears.

Thanks. Not as bad as Volitale's case, but also not something I like to see. It does not look safe to disable WOW64 redirection...

Checked against Win7/64 with 8.80.0001: Same result as Minimax reported (no dialog, but nothing overridden).

I will have to pop a warning message right before running a file operation with WOW64 off, something general like "It's not recommended to do this!".

Please try this:

1. start XY with WOW64 redirection ON
2. do some file operation leading to an overwrite (should pop confirmation)
3. now turn WOW64 redirection OFF
4. repeat step 2. You get a confirmation now???

My hunch is that the wrong library gets loaded when the first file operation is called after WOW64 redirection is disabled...

Nope, makes no difference. No confirmation dialog pops up neither when disabling WOW64 and copying nor with starting a WOW64 disabled XY and copying.

Really? You exactly followed my 4 steps? That's shocking.

After an hour of web research I tend to remove wow64 disabling completely from the GUI. The problems that have surfaced here in the thread are nowhere mentioned so who knows what other troubles are lurking in the dark corners of Wow64DisableWow64FsRedirection.

OTOH I know that users are using and needing it. Therefore I will keep it as a tweak, but with a warning message attached.
