GUI to select icon from a file when editing toolbar icons?
How about make an interface for us to select an icon from a file when editing toolbar icons? Allow us to select from a menu of icons images in a file [like how Windows does it when you change a shortcut icon]. It's useful for files such as shell32.dll, which contains many icons.

Personally, I don't see that this gets used often enough to justify the effort needed...one doesn't change icons that often, I believe and as they are numerous other ways to get the value needed, this falls into the "worth it?" category.
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!

Re: GUI to select icon from a file when editing toolbar icons?
we may change icons a lot when editing custom toolbar buttons. we need icons to easily differentiate the buttons. and shell32.dll contains a lot of windows system icons that are useful for this.
this is a pretty common feature in other programs when it comes to customizing icons. so i was suprised that xyplorer doesn't have such a feature. the current basic approach is mainly only good for taking icons from a basic file like a program's .exe, but it's not suitable for exploring for icons in such files like shell32.dll.

But the desired icons can be located outside of the CTB edit as described in http://www.xyplorer.com/xyfc/viewtopic. ... 210#p41210 in response to your other postingTsunamiZ wrote:we may change icons a lot when editing custom toolbar buttons.
True...but as stated above, there are alternatives that exist for the likely limited times one configures these CTB's...I don't really think ppl change TB icons on a daily or even weekly basis once they have been established...we need icons to easily differentiate the buttons. and shell32.dll contains a lot of windows system icons that are useful for this.
Ok...but still...it's not like it can't be done at all with the current XY.this is a pretty common feature in other programs when it comes to customizing icons. so i was suprised that xyplorer doesn't have such a feature. the current basic approach is mainly only good for taking icons from a basic file like a program's .exe, but it's not suitable for exploring for icons in such files like shell32.dll.

the current way is inconvenient and not designed for browsing for icons within files. so i would like to request consideration for improving this part of the program. it would be a useful complement to the toolbar buttons features.

here is a screenshot of Window's icon change interface. adding something like this to xyplorer's icon changing interface would speed up workflow and make it more user friendly. i know this is something i would use a lot when adding or updating favorite folders/files buttons to the toolbar.
