Are all the settings stored in XYplorer.ini ?
Anyone know if all the settings are stored in XYplorer.ini ? Even the favorites? If not, what files are the settings stored in? I would like to know so I can accurately backup my settings. Thanks.

You backup the whole application folder (where XYplorer.exe is) with all files in it. If you use an alternate application data folder (using command line switches or startup.ini) then you backup this folder.TsunamiZ wrote:Anyone know if all the settings are stored in XYplorer.ini ? Re: Are all the settings stored in XYplorer.ini ?
so does that mean the settings are stored in other files besides XYplorer.ini ? i would prefer to know just the settings files and not have to backup the entire program folder. so when i upgrade to a new version, i can just copy the settings files back into the new extraction. and also for keeping the settings on my usb drive current with my computer.

Re: Are all the settings stored in XYplorer.ini ?
AFAIK, almost all of the settings are in the INI...there are various .DAT files that hold other config info...they are named quite descriptively like KS.DAT which is your Keyboard Shortcuts, UDC.DAT which is User Defined Cmds, etc.TsunamiZ wrote:so does that mean the settings are stored in other files besides XYplorer.ini ?
So if you have all your DAT files plus the INI, you have everything you need...when I update to a new beta, I simply use the no-install vers and overlay the EXE only.
And given that the INI is easily readable via Tools, you can browse thru it to see what is there.
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!
(XP on laptop with touchpad and thus NO mouse!) Using latest beta vers when possible.

Here's a script that you can use (after editing the paths to your needs and liking):TsunamiZ wrote:ok so i'll just backup my .ini and .dat files. thanks

Re: Are all the settings stored in XYplorer.ini ?
Noone said this? You can (and from my position you should) separate XY program folder and data folder: in XY program folder add an file startup.ini, containing i.e.
The path may point to every location you like. It (and it's possible subdirectories) contains everything for XY that's variable, especially .ini and .dat files.
Code: Select all
[Appdata]
Path=e:\Programs\XYplorer\AppData

that's a good idea. and it would be even better if xyplorer organized the custom settings files seperately by default.
but with the current workaround, can the path be relative to the current program folder?

I think so, too. That's why I defined it for me.TsunamiZ wrote:that's a good idea. and it would be even better if xyplorer organized the custom settings files seperately by default.
