How to share application data and prevent overwritiing data?

Post by pjdevries »

One thing I appreciate about the PRO license, is being allowed to use it on "any number of devices". Because I switch regularly between workstations (some physical, some virtual), it allows me to use XYplorer on all those workstations. Using the /ini command line switch, it even allows me to share my configuration and data settings among various invocations. Cool thus far. Unfortunately there are some pitfalls when sharing settings and data:
  • If XYplorer is active on multiple workstations, the last one closed is the one whose settings and data persist.
  • "Restart without saving" doesn't restart XYplorer with the appropriate command line switches.
Are there solutions or workarounds for these issues?

1) No solutions or workarounds currently.
2) I'll check that.

Thanks for the reply.

I'll post a topic in the wishlist and keep an eye on this topic for a ""Restart without saving" resolution.

Hi and welcome to the XY forums!

It's not required that you make a wishlist topic as many things have been implemented from this sub-forum as well...and duplicate threads make searching harder later on.

Addendum: Even after close to 4 yrs here, I still sometimes have trouble deciding which sub-forum may be the best to start a topic in when it may be a bug or a wish so I then use this TTQ&A as an "in-between" one...Obvious bugs go in "Bugs" and same for wishes but we're not so strict here that we/Don won't reply/act on it if slightly misplaced.
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!

What particular command line switches did you use?

Actually, for Don, this speed of fixing bugs is quite typical and is a good part of the reason that I spend so much time trying to help him out...his rapid support like that is SO far beyond the normal that it's almost unheard of...the shortest turnaround time (in my experience here) that I recall from being reported to a msg that he found and fixed it was an unbelievable 20 min or so...now THAT is "mighty quick"! Yes, that was unusual but it has happened with just the right conditions in timing.
