Newbie pane and code question

Post by jreynolds »

Hello,

I'm evaluating XYplorer and Xplorer2 right now. I have two questions I'm hoping someone can help with. I did read the wiki and didn't find my answers, so please forgive me if I overlooked something somewhere.

1. When navigating network shares in the pane, I notice a significant difference in speed between the two products. I've tried to keep the settings generic in order to make a decent comparison, but am just finding the browsing in XYplorer to be very slow in comparison. Even when I turn off the tree sync, it's still very laggy.

2. I am actually concerned about the code base that XYplorer is built on, but it is not my intention to start a code flame war - it's just important to me personally. I read somewhere it's VB6. I can't seem to find a definitive answer about this anywhere. Does anyone know for certain?

Thanks much,

&J

Hi and welcome!

1. Long time since I heard that XY's network browsing is slow compared to other products. Actually I got used to hear the opposite. But every machine is different in the Windows world, so it looks like your machine likes x2 better.

2. Don't worry about the code. I'm happy to repeat: VB6 compiles to native code and there's not the nano-shadow of a reason why native code from one source should by any slower than native code from another source. Bits are bits.

Thank you for the reply.

I'm sure that the browsing speed could be any number of things. Later today I'm going to make some adjustments in the config settings and see if that makes a difference.

I appreciate the code base clarification.

Thank you,

&J
