Re: Icon for start menu entry 'XYplorer Homepage'
I never installed the default shortcuts so never noticed this but I did today and see what you mean...other app's have my IE icon for any "URL"/Web site links but XY has the standard XY icon...so I see what you mean and agree that it's not following the typical method.
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!

True. Now, does anybody actually need that start menu item?? And does anybody need the file "XYplorer.url" in the app folder?? This is 20th century stuff, isn't it? I'm inclined to solve the problem by removing it!

Re: Icon for start menu entry 'XYplorer Homepage'
I did a quick check of a nbr of apps that I have installed...didn't do an actual count but I'd say 60-70% of them have some sort of a Start shortcut like that to their website or a section within it...yes, it's somewhat unneeded but I think it's better to keep it and if users don't want it, they can del/purge it...most have at least 4 items: 1) Execute app 2) Uninstall app 3) Help file 4) Website --- and other typical items are: 5) Whats new or Read Me
Same goes for the URL in the app folder...not that much extra to keep.
What I did notice in a related area:
Almost all other apps described the uninstall as "Uninstall xxxx" and not just the generic term as you have it...is it needed to qualify it? Not technically but may give that one final extra measure of safety, especially if ppl combine shortcuts in ways that aren't typical, as some do.

Good point about the "Uninstall xxxx"!j_c_hallgren wrote:I did a quick check of a nbr of apps that I have installed...didn't do an actual count but I'd say 60-70% of them have some sort of a Start shortcut like that to their website or a section within it...yes, it's somewhat unneeded but I think it's better to keep it and if users don't want it, they can del/purge it...most have at least 4 items: 1) Execute app 2) Uninstall app 3) Help file 4) Website --- and other typical items are: 5) Whats new or Read Me

I'll check if I can get that icon display alright, else I drop it.

Just remove the IconFile & IconIndex from the .URL file?admin wrote:I'll check if I can get that icon display alright, else I drop it.
I checked another app and theirs doesn't have those lines.
Addendum: Scanned all the .URL files in my Program Files...yours was the only one that had the Icon item lines in it...easy fix!

Yep, true. But the fix needed to be made at another point. It's done now.j_c_hallgren wrote:Just remove the IconFile & IconIndex from the .URL file?admin wrote:I'll check if I can get that icon display alright, else I drop it.

True, that's the small price for it.grindax wrote:I can confirm that the new Homepage entry in v8.50.0004 now shows the browser icon, however all of the old start menu entries weren't cleaned up by the installer. So I had to delete all the old ones myself. Anyone who upgrades from a previous version is going to find the number of start menu entries doubled up.admin wrote: Yep, true.
