Supply of CTB

Post by aurumdigitus »

Have implemented CTB number eight so the supply grows short. As an aficionado of this concept was getting nervous about only two being left.

However, when 8.5 inaugurates CTB right click (a resplendent idea BTW) in concert with "button" command this assessment may need reevaluation.

No worries, I can easily give you 100 CTBs; it's just a number... :)

Also wishes to have two toolbar line to hold more CBT.

I don't like the layout of [address bar] [toolbar] or [toolbar] [address bar] because I don't like the address hold the whole line. The address just need a limited length is enough to show some part of address is enough.

thanks. :D

This has been mentioned before but there is a workaround that I now use to help with this situation...I had run out of room for built-in XY TB icons so used a CTB setup to allow me access to the others via one CTB...this is documented in this thread
http://www.xyplorer.com/xyfc/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=4144
which admittedly got a bit convoluted (partially due to my lack of understanding it) but it does work great!
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!

I brought up the subject recently..since so many people use a variety of buttons to add features to windows explorer among other programs. I considered that XYplorer should include linkage to tie in your favorite button/feep. I happen to use two: 1 called DMEX tool and another called bxNewFolder. DMEX does some maximum reconfiguring of windows explorer and ties into a variety of places for different panel layouts and more. bxNewFolders is an add-in from BaBex which is involved with the old stand by: Irfanview which is a great graphics program as well, that does nearly everything you could want in a pictures/movie/graphics program including sorting and filing which is the biggie for me since I take a lot of photos and collect wallpapers like mad.
The NewFolders thingie just puts a button for making a new folder on the bar instead of in a drop down menu. Some of you may have run across a discussion about .cmd files tied to the 'file folder' filetype definitions. This has been talked about on CNET and PCworld for some time. The code simplifies the making of multiple and dated folders. While I like the idea, I also re-wrote the make many folders routine so that when the CMD window opens there is a bit of text explaining how to enter the data for your filenames. By adding an OPEN option for the 'file folder' filetype, an entry on the right-click panel is added for making folders. The one for folder w date is simple and is altered via the regional settings applet on Control Panel.
I favor buttons and menues without a lot of excess wordage and folderall on the KISS principle. The current version of XYplorer has the folder maker thingie as part of the drop-down but no button and it gets into the nuts and bolts of the date layout etc which I consider could be better left to the applet in CP rather than tie up the resources in XYplorer.

Hi and welcome to the XY forums!

But given that was your first post here, I'm confused how you "brought up the subject recently"...and could you please edit that post and make all that text into a few paragraphs so it's more readable? I got lost after a few sentences...thanks!

Just curious to ask Don: "when will this number increase". thanks.

(P.S. don't change your own development schedule because of my questions:-)

Sorry, was having a wonky keyboard day. Rather than repeat I'll paraphrase a bit. Basicly the point I was making was that XYplorer would probably run faster if some things were outsourced to other helper apps that a person already had installed for adding feeps and buttons.

I like the way XYplorer works for the most part but I really miss add-ons that I can access using windows explorer. Most of the ones I use are separate programs/mods to the main event...one such tool is the baBex website's bxNewFolder which adds a new folder button to the toolbar. I like to put some extras on a toolbar rather than from a dropdown for ease of use. Some features make more sense from a menu or the appropriate section of a program.
I read about the 'make new folder w date' and 'make many' cmd files in my pcworld mag and added it to my right context panel. You change the 'file folder' filetype entry to point to the cmd routine, which does the task for you rather than have to manually create the folders. The cmd routine is entirely separate from the windows explorer program and seems most of the add-ons I've seen take that approach to adding features and fixes for a problem.
Too many buttons sort of defeats the speed/convenience idea inherent in a button so lots of buttons should be corralled into a dropdown of its own for organization's sake.
I have been trying a program call TrayIconPro which manages my system tray and desktop icons. It does have some problems I've found when I try to set it up to look at the root folders of my various drive partitions it hangs and I am not sure if its the program or the fact that I have set up such an involved roster of things for it to do...but the usage of a program would naturally have to manage the collection well or it is a dud as far as I am concerned.
Adding the ability to take already installed feeps to its own use would certainly add broad powers and flex to XYplorer....and make it without the program having to deal with the issues of a particular 'feep' would make XY faster of itself.

@ehb

you can do this using scripting, just add the code in a user button.

Code: Select all

new "NewFolder", dir
cheers

XYplorer's toolbar gives you unlimited power by customizable/scriptable user buttons. But you won't get add-ons here.

As stanmarsh demonstrated, scripting is not that difficult.
