Config option to keep Catalog items sorted

Post by mwoffenden »

I would love to see a configuration option that, if turned on, would always keep catalog items sorted alphabetically.

For me, I'd prefer something that I could easily trigger a sort if/when I desired it as I think that has more flexability...but then again, I don't modify contents of my Catalog that often...actually, quite rarely I do.

I'd see a Sort added with the "Move Up/Down" group on context menu and have the option to sort just that category or the entire Catalog.
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!
(XP on laptop with touchpad and thus NO mouse!) Using latest beta vers when possible.

This "manual sort" approach would also be an improvement.

It's so easy to move items by drag+drop, and it's (IMO) so rarely that you need to sort catalog items, that an extra "sort" item would be bloat.

What's your use case where you need sort so often that an extra command seems warranted?

I see your point. However when I'm using a piece of software (be it XY, or any software) and I have to to manually sort a list anywhere in the program, I get a sense that something's missing. And over 10 items in a list (I now have 15 items in my Catalog and adding more every day) starts to become a bit of a chore to sort by hand.

And you're right, it's not hard to sort. I just should not have to do so. I should be able to instruct the software of my preferences (that is, assuming it supports said preference) and have it just comply.

In my case (and I may be in the minority) I like absolutely everything sorted alpha :) , so ultimately I'd wish for a "master" sort option that basically forced all lists to sort alpha by default.
