"Large Icon" view

Post by Signal_78 »

Hi,
I would find very useful a 'View' option which was essentially the Thumbnail style View....without thumbnail generation.
I believe this is what some other File Managers call 'Large Icon'.

Apologies if this has been requested previously (not sure if this is the same as 'Tile').

Thanks,

Mark

Curious: What's the point in "Large Icon" view? Never understood...

For me the utility of the 'Large Icon' View is in it's better visibility.

If a monitor is across a desk--or anywhere more than two feet away--I find the viewing easier, and the visual 'acquisition speed' faster with the larger screen icons (vs List or Detail). Even when viewing from closer--the 'spaced targets' are often faster for me to use than a 'list'.

And....it provides that without the distraction/clutter of thumbnails, when all I need to know is file type.

OK, please -- to make sure -- provide a screenshot of "Large Icons" view.

Thanks Don,

Here are a couple of free, small package, file managers which you can use to investigate the 'Large Icon' view:

http://www.cubicreality.com/ce/download/
CubicExplorer (single pane)

http://www.freecommander.com/fc_downl_en.htm
FreeCommander

But I think most FMs offer it as an option.

It would be better if you could just give a screenshot of the area of the screen that is involved rather than linking to other competing FM products here, so that we can just get a idea without having to install something else...
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!
(XP on laptop with touchpad and thus NO mouse!) Using latest beta vers when possible.

Rightyright!!

Signal_78, I assume we are talking about thumbnails view without the thumbnails, right?

Really?

I would think being able to actually use it would be much more informative about how it displays, and in different situations, etc.

Any FM should be able to demonstrate it (I'm sure you must have many!?).
Or....installing a free program is only a matter of a few seconds.

I have no ability (or wish) to provide 'screenshots'. Sorry.

Yes, as mentioned in my first post: as far as I can discern it is just like Thumbnails but with Thumbnails replaced by the respective icon for whichever image file format.

The 'Tile' view is also in many FMs but--looks (to me) to be just be a larger yet version of 'Large Icon'.

I know what a Large Icon view is. I just wanted to make sure that you mean the same by the term. Communication needs to pass some checks to be successful. But don't worry, it's low prio anyway.

Sorry If I was less clear/communicative than optimal:
The 'Large Icon' view I am requesting is the same as in other FMs.
