I never liked the New menu: it does not explain what exactly it is about to do, where do the new file definitions come from, and who added them and how... (I know it works via registry...)
Maybe we can do better! What about this: a new subfolder under TV3's main dir, called "new files", and you can freely place any files here (let's say up to 24), and when the new menu is popped up, these files are listed in the menu, and when you click one of them a copy of the file is created in the current folder. Hey, isn't that cool!

This is how Microsoft explain how to remove the entries:admin wrote:... where do the new file definitions come from, and who added them and how...
Code: Select all
Each template exists in the [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT] hive associated with a file extension. Whether it is visible or not in the New menu is controlled by whether the related entry has a sub-key called 'ShellNew'.
For example on the New menu there is usually an entry for "Text Document". This is visible because of the key: [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.txt\ShellNew] If you were to rename the key so it no longer had a sub-key called 'ShellNew' by changing it to [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.txt\ShellNewOld] it would disappear from the New menu.I like the concept. Would the list be just a list of extensions, i.e file types, and TrackerV3 pre-fixes the extension with "New File" (or something similar)? I would prefer that to having the full filename & extension in the list. Having said that, I doubt if I would use it much since I normally open the application and create the new file, then save it.admin wrote:a new subfolder under TV3's main dir, called "new files", and you can freely place any files here (let's say up to 24), and when the new menu is popped up, these files are listed in the menu, and when you click one of them a copy of the file is created in the current folder.

Full filename & extension. With automatically invoking rename mode.Gandolf wrote:I like the concept. The possibilities are exciting!
- You can place files you use again and again in the new files folder. For example as a web developer you use "shim.gif" everytime, or a basic skeleton of an index.htm, or your logo.jpg, etc etc....!
- You can also place folders inside the new files folder! With contents or an empty subfolder structure which you then can recreate with one click!

Re: New Menu
Thank you, too, pissant, for triggering this new items thing! I think for digital developers of all fields whose daily work consists in creating and modifying files, this feature alone is a reason to love (and buy!pissant wrote:Would be nice if TV3 supported the New menu offered in Explorer...
