Single/Dual pane.
Columns
It stands to reason that more columns can be shown in single pane than in double pane mode, for a given window size. Does XYplorer have a setting in which it can automatically remember the different preset column settings when switching from one to the other (constant window and column size), applicable to all folders as default setting?
I might mention that "Help" through Index, I find more than a little confusing as are the Folder view settings in View, i.e. what is applicable to only one folder and what applies to all.
I hope I've made myself clear enough.
Other than that, all I can say, what a pleasant improvement WRT Free Commander (crashes), let alone Total Commander (archaic).

Re: Single/Dual pane columns
Did you try horizontal dual panes?
Welcome,
Don
PS: Folder view settings (FVS) have a Default that will work for all folders when going to them. However tabs store their own settings and will overwrite FVS when you re-select a tab.

Re: Single/Dual pane columns
Don,
thanks for your prompt reply.
I take it my query cannot be done.
Yes, I have thought of horizontal panes, but it does not suit my specific needs (habits?). [Same as toggle-able preview not using the second pane]
Needs being; normal single pane view with as much information as I can squeeze in (90%), and dual view with limited columns for the occasional compare and drag/moving operations, for the default window size.
If I'm not mistaken, the older Thunderbird remembered the different column settings between, with vertical preview pane and without. But that's also history by now, unfortunately.
No matter, not too serious.

Re: Single/Dual pane columns
One thing you can do: In menu View / Columns you find "Define Column Layout... " and "Restore Column Layout...". You can Store/Restore your Dual Pane layout from there. Assign a keyboard shortcut and you have a fast way to the narrow layout you want to see in DP. Define the wide layout as default FVS and you are quickly back at the wide layout.
It's not perfect but a bit better maybe.
