Double Click to Close Tab

Post by pissant »

I thought this would have been mentioned already, but I didn't see it. In any case, it's simple (in concept): An option to double click on a tab to close it.

Ok, there seems to be a true demand for this :)

Note that dbl-clicking a background tab will first select it and then close it, so this functionality works really cool only on the current foreground tab.

That's how it works with Firefox and the Tab Mix Plus extension (i.e. if an inactive tab is double clicked, it first takes focus, and then closes). Never bothered me one bit. I had to check just now to verify that it even happened that way. :)

Catching the middle-click (like Tab Mix can) is the perfect solution for that.

It means using the middle mouse button, rather than a double click, to perform the intended action. It wouldn't be a perfect solution for me, personally, since I have the middle mouse button configured to perform a double click.

Same here. Middle mouse button = double click is one the best things I ever did for my fingers.

By "catch" I meant that in your event handler (in code) you would "catch" the middle mouse button being clicked and close the tab the mouse was clicked over. This way the tab wouldn't have to be focused before it was closed.

I see you've already implemented the double-click to close a tab...Thanks!!

Only, if middle button is programmed to dbl click it can not be cought.

Anyway, dblclick works fine.

Technically, you don't double click to rename, you issue two single clicks (could also be called a "slow double click", though that's not really accurate).

I'm used to dblclick=open, but it seems to have emerged as a de-facto standard for tabbed interfaces to close a tab by dblclick.

And I remember some blathering Opera fan telling me that double click closing wasn't any sort of standard.

Anyway, I think I found a bug having to do with this new feature.

is there any way to be able to double click the tab to send it to home. Middle click to close is great, but I would love to be able to double click the tab to go to its home..

Thanks

Riki
