thumbnails view

Post by Muroph »

with cache enabled, there will be some drawing errors if you scroll the list too fast.

xy also crashes very often when generating thumbs for realmedia files, but this could be caused by some codec.

sorry, i don't.
i usually don't download them, but encode them myself.
i use this freeware to do it.
when xy crashes, windows pops a message saying there was an error with relmediasplitter.ax.
it happens with the preview pane as well (i enabled rmvb preview using the media custom extensions tweak).
again, it could be the cocec's (actually splitter :P ) fault, but xy is the only app that i've seen crash with these files.

another bug:
with folder thumbnails enabled, if i dbl-click on a folder thumb very quickly it (the folder) will be opened in a explorer window instead of xy.

btw, the scroll bug seems to be fixed. :)

Maybe you can send me one per mail?

dbl-click on a folder thumb: no problems here. I know why you hate your Windows.

not with my internet connection...
but don't worry.
today i managed to crash explorer using a rmvb and i got the same error. 8)
so it has been confirmed that it's not a problem with xy.
admin wrote:dbl-click on a folder thumb: no problems here.
hmmm....
i noticed that if i dbl-click quickly enough xy doesn't even select the item on the list, only opens the explorer window.
but how could explorer know what folder to open without xy telling it? :?
Muroph wrote:btw, the scroll bug seems to be fixed. :)
nope.
it's harder to trigger, but still there. :|
my n00b analisys:
with the cache enabled, if you scroll fast enough xy will skip drawing some items through the list and then get confused when drawing the "final" list.
everything works fine after all thumbs have been loaded in the correct place (e.g. scroll slowly, or even scrolling up and down quickly and triggering the bug many times).

i installed "real alternative" and tried an rm and rmvb file and couldn't reproduce the codec error. Do you use the real, "real player"? ><

btw i couldn't even get XY to make a thumbnail of any of my movies, tried many .avi, mpg, ogm, wmv ..etc, i must of disabled an option somewhere, ill edit this if i can get it generate thumbs.

I can view image thumbs fine.

DON
in previewed formats , your missing the format MKV (its like OGM), also i think SWF is missing.

nope, i also use real alternative (from k-lite mega codec pack).
a stand-alone install gives the same errors.
it doesn't happen every time i see a rmvb.
still, opening a folder with more than 15 rmvbs in thumbs view is a good way to crash xy.

I can view image thumbs fine.
"tools -> config. -> thumbnails -> show thumbs for non picture files"
if it still doesn't work try using this script:

Code: Select all

run "regsvr32 shmedia.dll"
it works on windows xp, but i'm not sure about other OSes.

no idea, all checkbox's are checked for thumbnails, i know my system can display thumbnails for movies since windows explorer can show them fine, xplorer2 and ultra explorer.

this must just be another bug in XY, Don needs to setup a virtualbox with windows 7 / vista so he can test these things. XP is old now :X

It's working just fine here on Vista x64, so it's not just XY, but some combination of your settings, system, and XY.

dbl-click on a folder thumb: wow, indeed, you unearthed a very old bug, at least 2.5 years old! Fixed now. :)

scroll bug: I never saw it but keep looking.

this is the best i could come up with:
1. run a fresh install of v8.10.0017
2a. enable thumbnail cache and file icon on thumbnails
2b. enable icons on thumbnails (not necessary, but makes the bug easier to see)
3. set view mode to thumbnails (i used thumbs #3)
4. go to a folder with lots of images (i.e. a few times more than what can fit in one screen)
5. scroll down very quickly using the mouse wheel.
some screenshots:
A. stop scrolling before the end of the list (i used larger thumbs to make up for the lack of files)

B. if i scroll untill the end

the last line of icons should not be there.
also, sometimes the thumbs are displayed only for the 1st line.

the bug is only triggered while the folder has not been fully cached.

i hope this is enough. :P

This looks very similar to something I found:

Pick a directory with several hundred images.
PageDown several times (or scroll with the mouse) then PageUp once or twice.
You can end up with thumbnails that were already generated getting removed, and a blank space left. If you time it right almost the entire screen can display file names, but no thumbnails.

I could reproduce a similar problem (thumbs were drawn one over the other!), and I might have found the cause of it. See next beta...

in this screenshot, the icons that should be on the 2nd and 3rd lines are on the 4th and 5th lines.
plus the missing thumbs.

Don, when you get some free time could you look into this , I have movies under a Dir with Japanese in it and all movies under that dir don't generate thumbnails, if i move the movie to the root of the drive it will generate the thumb its just when its in a directory with Japanese/Unicode

IE: drive
G:\映画\
cel-alpha\
then id have all the movies (some with Japanese file names and English filenames mixed)

Picture thumbs work fine under these dirs just movies fail to generate.
Not a urgent bug since i really don't use thumbs but maybe you could look into it when you get around to it.

Last tested version was 8.10.0020
