fairly standard implementation ... I actually researched this and did not find a lot of hints for this being a "fairly standard implementation". Prove it!

x² & T.C. both do it with the Ins key. Spacebar works as you have implemented.

Altap Salamander uses the Spacebar to select, and then step onto the next file.

Those are the three I can think of immediately, without even checking any others.
