On the fly font activation

Post by aurumdigitus »

From the Wiki: "You can activate/deactivate fonts on the fly by simply clicking on the bold, underlined font name shown in the font preview's info frame." Is this still in 8.0? I can't seem to find it.

Maybe (in my dotage) if someone would send a screen shot that would do it.

Well, as Shakespeare would say, "Therein lies the rub". On my work station the font name is neither bold nor underlined!

Hmm, the labels appear to be not high enough -- the underline is cropped! How's that possible? Are you using special display settings like non-standard DPI or so? Or strange fonts?

OK, Trebuchet MS is higher than other fonts. Gotta change some hundred labels now...

Meanwhile - to get the function operational - what font do you recommend as default?

It has always been operational, you just did not see the underline. IN the latest version that should be fixed as well.

If the function still does not work, it's bug unrelated to the display font.

Sorry. In order to see the bold and underline on my machine what is the optimal font?

Tahoma? Any font? On my machine Trebuchet shows bold and underline.

Yes, with Tacoma both the bold and underline are now visible. When clicking, however, there is no feedback and nothing appears on the Status Bar. Is that normal?

No, it should turn blue. I use this brilliant feature all the time for many years now. However, I think I never got any feedback on it. I don't know whether it ever worked on any other machine. :|

Good news and bad news.

The bad news is the the font name does not change to blue but remains very black. The good news is that clicking does activate the font. As others may be bedeviled by this how about having the Status Bar say "Font Activated"?

Additional thought: Having done muck work with typefaces over the weekend (which is the progenitor of this topic) where the line exists for the data for Font Preview to display, it would be desirable to have a drop down list that would remember a modest number of samples.

I agree with both, but will for now only implement the first. :)

PS: It's not a hard-coded "blue" but actually the configurable color "Marked Text 1"!
