Dual Trees :)

Post by Mesh »

Now that 8.0 is officially out, I feel comfortable in formally posting to the Wishes area, the request for dual trees in DP mode.

If this is too soon, just say so. :)

One thing I had always admired about XY was the polished look of its interface.
DP functionality has just been released and is definitely NOT polished, yet here we have request already for Dual Tree... or should I say DT?

Someone should start a "Formal DT Proposal Thread".

DT is not on the map until some other stuff is done (see roadmap).

I think XY still looks very polished because I care about that a lot. It just looks a little different now from before DP. And I will care about that as well...

I think you mix up things?

One is the effect of dual pane for people not using it. This is true - though I don't understand the strength they are assigned.

The other are effects of the so called "not-ready state" of such a function. Like the wish for dual tree. This affects people using DP - and those who don't like DP should simply not use it. (I personally prefer DP without DT before no DP at all...)
And look at the roadmap - so many things not ready in XY. So would you not use it?
Look at "fast-filecopy". Not there. Would you not use XY? Or at least not copy/move with it? Or would you prefer to use some other tool for mass-copies, if you often need it, but continue to use XY?

So sometimes I start thinking that some don't like DP, and are glad about some effects they can criticize?
Don't get me wrong: I understand, for example, the problem with the changed/shortened tab-layout. (This is the way I see it.) But I don't understand the level some talk about it.
And I don't understand a problem with DP-quality for someone just wanting to use SP.

Your comment makes you look foolish, as it makes it quite obvious how unfamiliar you are with the history which you reference.

If you have something relevant to say, I for one would be happy to hear it. Otherwise, commentary like this only speaks poorly for yourself, not others.

I've read this more than once and I still don't see what possibly could look "NOT polished" since it looks to me that DP has been very nicely incorporated into XY and it's shining brightly with a sparkle!

You do realize that Mesh was one who started the 'Formal DP Proposal' and was very instrumental in getting DP done, IMO, right?

I somewhat agree...I think some people are TOO fixed in how they use a product and unwilling to accept some changes, but I also understand that the layout changes could adversely affect some users in that, for ex, the max nbr of visible tabs has been reduced by not being able to use the area over the tree.
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!
(XP on laptop with touchpad and thus NO mouse!) Using latest beta vers when possible.

LOL, it is you who are foolish, my friend.
I have been following this DP story most intently for almost three years now.

I am well aware of Mesh's efforts.
I was also here for Mesh's prior unsuccessful push as well.

I just want to try to ensure that the DP fanatics don't overwhelm XY's development trajectory, that's all.

That actually speaks worse of your original comments, not better.

So, it doesn't count unless it works the first time?

As far as I can see, there was no ranting in the OP, it was just a feature request. If that's enough to make you feel like you need to protect XY's "development trajectory", you must really resent the entire "Wishes" forum.

You might wish to relax - there's nothing untoward about a person making a feature request in the feature request forum.

Gotcha. No problem, just getting it on the record. :)

What are the thoughts on how this should be laid out?
What happens to the Nav Panel and the Catalog?

No one cares about your opinion of me.

The thread title is "Dual Trees :)" and the admin already gave what I believe was a most satisfactory response, and the only one that truly matters here, actually.

If you still have a comment you wish to make about me, you can send me a PM, although unfortunately I cannot guarantee a reply.

Unnecessary, as you've made it quite clear what your worth is to this community.

Ok...I'm not the moderator here but I'm also not used to seeing such conflict here...we try to get along and we do quite well normally, so I'd suggest that both Uagadugu and Demset take a breather before it gets too much like other forums...we don't want any flame wars here, ok? Yes, the posts have been civil thus far but I can see the dislike/disdain in them.

I've looked thru both of your histories of posting and I'm a bit surprised with Uagadugu's...been here quite a long time, yet very few posts and most were today...and most of those have been somewhat negative...on the other hand, Demset has been here less but has contributed more and positively, so that's the preferred behavior, at least from my POV.

This leads me to wonder if Uagadugu's motives are what the rest of us share, or if he's just a user of a competing product who wants to stir the pot..I'd like to be proved wrong, but in one way, I don't really care as long as things remain peaceful here.

End of rant...
