PSD Files
Hello! I have purchased a lifetime license and am enjoying the program. I am having a problem that some PSD files show their thumbnails and some do not. It seems very inconsistent and I cannot nail down why some show and some don't.
I am using:
Photoshop CS4
Vista 64
thanks for any help with this issue.
cheers
Jer

Re: PSD Files
Hi and welcome to the XY forums! And thanks also for buying XY, thus helping support Don!
Also glad to hear that you're enjoying XY!
As to your issue, I've not got a similar setup but the thing that I'd look at closely is what makes thes one that show vs the ones that don't from the Properties perspective or from any other similar image/file attributes that may be only seen via Photoshop....and that may provide a clue.

Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!

Thank you for your reply. I checked the info panel F12 and it seems that for some reason some of my psd files it shows "no embedded thumbnail found". I will assume for now that the thumbnail was lost somewhere in my work flow on some of the files...

I think it has to do with the state of the layers in the moment you save the image in photoshop. When the focus is on a invisible layer no thumbnail is generated. At least I seem to remember it was like this some years ago. No time for tests now...

Re: PSD Files
It wasn't that; but it must be something just as silly.
Re: PSD Files
I just tried XNView which shows the thumbnails properly on the psd files. So I think it is something with XY afterall.

Re: PSD Files
If you have a PSD file that XNView shows but XY not, you can send it to me per email so I can do some checks. Thanks.J3R wrote:I just tried XNView which shows the thumbnails properly on the psd files. So I think it is something with XY afterall.

Re: PSD Files
I have four PSD's that are part of the Photoshop Elements/Tutorials folder and two of them doesn't show thumb in XY...In the "Photoshop Image" tab of Properties, it shows properly and the checkbox "Generate Thumbnails" is checked just like the rest...so it may be somehow related to XY...especially as I just tried it in Win Expl, and it show those thumbs just fine on my old sys..
I get the "No embed thumb found" on IP in XY on the failing files.

Re: PSD Files
I noticed some strange behavior of XYPlorer when showing thumbnails for folders containing PSD files.
The thumbnails are shown for all PSD files inside the folder, by they are not inherited by the folder itself.
And there is no matter how the PSD files were created (i checked this with files created in Photoshop 7, CS2 and CS4).
The behavior is the same:
- the thumbnails are drown for the files
- but when you go one level higher, there is no thumbnail for their folder.
"View - Caches - Refresh Thumbnails" doesn't help.

Re: PSD Files
This is simply not implemented. Only JPG and PNG. Performance reasons. Nobody ever asked for PSD.medder wrote:I noticed some strange behavior of XYPlorer when showing thumbnails for folders containing PSD files.
