Sure! :D

- i am in the active pane
- i hit TAB-key
- i am in the former inactive pane, which is now the active one

What else?
Well, there's a problem: activating an inactive pane means (or can mean) that the tree is synchronized with the now active pane. But tree action (which theoretically can take time with deeply nested folders) triggered by a mere focus change is not an expected Windows experience.

So I'm rather with Mesh: take the inactive pane out of the focus chain (= all controls that can be focused by TAB).

I just checked my x2 lite to see what Tab does in it...it switches between active/inactive pane and Shift-Tab switches between AB and tree...and since I'm using the free vers, I can't customize KS so those must be default values.
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!
(XP on laptop with touchpad and thus NO mouse!) Using latest beta vers when possible.

That's right, i just have checked this with TC.

>But tree action (which theoretically can take time with deeply nested folders)
I have often sync problems because of a few network share mapped,
but as i see, TC syncs the tree in no time after an panel-switch by TAB-key

>triggered by a mere focus change is not an expected Windows experience.
But we use an file manager, where many things are different from "expected Windows experience"
That's why i use file manager at all.

TAB to switch panels is mandatory IMHO.
So *I* would prefer to rather not sync the tree automatically, if this is an problem, but "by hand" only.
(Of course optional behavior controlled by an option?)

Whereas for me, I would hate it if the Tab key did anything other than switch between the active tree and file list. It seems clear that this will need to be configurable, as people prefer different methodologies.

As for synchronizing the tree, it's a completely moot point if there are dual trees. <grin>

I've just tried it in DOPus, Dual pane - horizontal split and single tree. Switching between panes (or tabs in the pane). The first time a new directory is accessed (assuming that the parent is not already open) the tree takes time to update for several levels of subdirectories. After that switching panes the tree changes instantly.

Since XY has a very fast tree I can't see a problem.

Status quo: 8) !

I'm actually having Dual Pane now at home. Before I unleash it to you, I have to fix about 200-400 glitches...

Well, it's "a lot of wood" (as we say in Germany)... a bit more than I'd thought. But I'm still positive that you'll get your Dual Pane BETA version this week. Just trying to make it real pretty first... 8)

I certainly appreciate the effort! And although I can't speak for everyone here, my own philosophy is that I'd rather have it done right than done fast. :)

Well, here you are. 8) The user who spots the first 500 bugs gets a free lifetime license!

BTW, a funny thing happened on the way to the second pane. After 2 weeks 24 hours/day DP mania I started to kind of like it. I might even use it once in a while.

Say what???

Excuse me while I pick myself up of the floor...that's almost like saying that Don is going to start using an Apple/Mac!

Anyway, glad to see that we've made a small impact on your ways...

No use having items only on the toolbar - I never use it. I assume that will change later.

I can't see which is the active pane - how is it distinguished? You say "also providing a better way to mark the active pane" but I can't see any marking of the active pane at the moment. I assume the fact that the focused item is greyed out is how you are doing it - not much use if the focused item is not visible.

How do I switch between panes - don't tell me the rat or I'll scream!!! I understood that there would be a keystroke even if it was not the standard Tab key.

No pane header, don't you intend to have one?? If not, without flexible tabs then it's impossible to see the path of the inactive pane with more than a few tabs open (even on my 1920 x 1200 display).

What's the first / second / both panes flexible? I can't see any difference. I don't have the tree active so is it something to do with that?

There is, obviously, no means of copying to the inactive pane. Remember, I'm a keyboard user so "drag-and-drop" is of no use.

Can't drag splitter completely to right / left so can't maximise the pane other than switching to single pane.

Switching to single pane always defaults to the left pane, not the active pane.

Select an item in the left pane - status bar shows it as a document and gives the name. Switch to an item in the right pane, it's a jpeg file and is shown as such in the status bar. Switch back to the already focused item in the left pane, only on icon is shown and no file name. Back to the right pane (focused item) and now only the icon is shown - no name.

I don't like the active drag of the splitter, visually distracting with many tabs open which keep changing. I much prefer only the splitter bar to move then, when the mouse button is released, the split happens.

Major problem - the inactive pane does not update on file changes. I'm watching some files that are being sent to me, in x² as the file arrives the list is updated even though neither the pane or x² are active. In XY the inactive pane is "frozen".

Sorry, Don, but first reaction it that it's a "non-starter" for me. I can't even begin to try to use it.
