Help! I've lost my icons

Post by mwoffenden »

I've lost my icons corresponding to each file. How do I get them back?

Hi and welcome to the XY forums!

When you say they are "lost", what exactly do you mean?

And in the interim, I'd suggest you look at the icon related options in Config>Advanced (at the lower right) as they may have an impact on this.
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!
(XP on laptop with touchpad and thus NO mouse!) Using latest beta vers when possible.

Exactly that. They stopped appearing. I also tried the config options you mentioned, to no avail. Here's a screen shot.

Welcome to XY,
Did you by accident uncheck "Show icons" from menu "View|List Style"?

Indeed I did and they are back. Amazing how important those little guys are. Many thanks for your quick reply!

BTW - I've been using "XY" for just a few days and already have noticed that I've not used Windows Explorer once since installing XY (and not missed Explorer either). And sad to say, I'm on my computer a lot.

I'm loving the ride with XY and finding out all the little hidden treasures -- like how not to make the icons go away. :)

I'm hoping there is a way to completely replace Windows Explorer with XY, so that starting Windows Explorer would start XY.

There are so many things to like about XY. It simply blows away the others. I've tried all the major Explorer replacements, and uninstalled all of them within a day. But XY is here to stay.

The toolbar is one of my favorite things - the icons are colorful, visually appealing, and make sense. The only negative I see thus far in XY overall, is the sheer number of options and subsequent complex menu structures. I wish there was a way to customize the command tree, as I'd love to weed out those I'll never use -- to shorten the menus and improve productivity. Maybe that will show up in a future version. Having said that, clearly the easter egg hunt is keeping me busy enough to overlook those concerns!

Have not seen it, but when I get some time I'll take a look. Thanks.

I've actually a plan to do exactly this on my table. The time will come...
