2-rows tabs

Post by lastnikita »

Would be nice to have the option to display tabs on 2 rows:
locked
unlocked

that's it :)

I won't say that I speak for Don, but based on my knowledge of product/forum history, I'd say: probably no chance of this...there are some basic/core parts that wouldn't support this, as I understand.
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!
(XP on laptop with touchpad and thus NO mouse!) Using latest beta vers when possible.

Yep, the basic/core part that wouldn't support this is called "Donald".

?
tabs are useful, but the width is usually not enough to get tabs+labels.
what's the big deal, Donald ? :D

edit: well, I have to add that I'm currently running on a 17" monitor, my 24" widescreen beeing (once more) sent to the service center :-/

What I was saying before was that certain parts of layout are like the kernel of OS...you don't chg them without a lot of impact/work...so some things are fixed in place.

Sure, I understand, but I guess Don meant that HE didn't want to support this :D
So I thought I may ask.. coz I can't guess any big difficulty implementing it.

I always end up with too many tabs opened which makes it pretty difficult to locate one, must put my mouse pointer over each one to identify them..

While it's not the solution you seek, there's a Tab List button and Window -> Tabs, which can show you a menu of all open tabs. The latter can also be executed via shortcut key, script, user command, or catalog. ;)

yep, saw that tonight, thanks :)
not as fast or intuitive though, and pretty time consuming when you want to remove a few tabs..
then you'd need to go into each tab you wanna remove via that list, to finally double-click it to close.
I usually finish up removing all of my unlocked tabs and go again from scratch :(

Or right-click empty space in Tab bar.

You know, 2 rows is no solution. If I give you 2, you want 3 next time.

What about Iconize , did you try that?

it frees up space but hides label which is exactly what I'm not looking for..
edit: just noticed that paths get auto. hidden when too much tabs, which is already really a nice trick.

ok, now you made me feel like an uneducated kid :(
2 rows is definitely a solution for me, and it would improve my experience coz it would improve visibility of what is locked and what is not (the first row would act as favorites bar in internet browsers), but if I'm alone and you can't/don't want, I understand, will try to use catalog or another "trick" instead, no biggie.

I did not mean you personally. It was the general you-user-folk kind of you. You are not the first to ask for it. One of the oldest long-term users (Gandolf) even left the forum for good only because I did not implement his vision of tab bar. Seems to be a sensible topic. Like so often when it's about duplicating what's there. Dual Pane, Dual Toolbar... what's next? Dual Pay for the license?
