Code: Select all

+ File Tags: Now, when in Details view and with Tag column visible,
you can click directly into the column to (un)tag items! It
toggles between the last used tag and no tag. Selections are not
      affected by this click.
Funny, I thought of wishing for something like that last night, but didn't even had time to do so :) Except that I would have wished for something slightly different : First of all, for it to be triggered on right-click - I'm not sure like that a single click can remove a tag like that; and secondly, that it would actually pop-up the Tags submenu, so one can set whatever tag just as easily.

And actually, to go somewhat off-topic, for when onEvent actions will come, it would really be cool to have events for right-click on an empty area on List, as well as on columns Name, Size, Comment, Modified, etc (as in a click on the actual data, not the column) each triggering, of course, a different action.
Much like what happens on column Name with the shell's item's ctxt menu only trigger on the actual Name (not the full column), but with every column. I can already see myself assigning some things like right-click on Modified/Created to trigger a script to timestamp, on Comment to edit it, etc

Another thing I would like, is a little change in the Tag column. I use the "Symbol" style, which is really cool, but when doing so the column's width is more than the actual "symbol", and I feel like as a result there are wasted pixels, which I don't like. Plus, if you ever try to put the Tag column first before the Name one for example, it really looks bad with all those waster pixels on the right of the tag' symbol. I'd be fine with a column without a name, just a "square" or something to symbolize the Tag symbol, and thus allowing for the column to be as small as it can be without any "wasted" pixels anywhere.
- popup on right click: yep, goody.
- column size: I agree it looks bad, but there must be space for that sorting "pyramid". :|

Well, right now when I sort by Tag, I still see the "T" (well, it's a little eaten but still very much there). AFAIC I wouldn't have a problem with having as I said a little "sign"/symbol instead of the full word "Tag", and nothing but the sorting "pyramid" when sort order is on that column. It's not like it could be confused with anything else anyway...

You see only the T?? With Tahoma 8 the column header should be 42 pixels wide and show the whole word "Tag" plus the pyramid!

 Forget it! I got what you mean -- I was thinking autosize column...

Actually, if you edit the tag name to nothing then you have the entire tag column filled with color only and since you dont use autoresize that wil lsuit you better than symbol i guess.
@Don: in the GUI, when i rename tag name to nothing then i dont see any colors which is confusing if i rename all my 7 tags to nothing.

jacky, isn't that essentially the same as I had spoken of on page 2 of this thead but which you disagreed with? Like in the following?

j_c_hallgren wrote:Addendum: Now what would be neat would be the ability to, via context menu on Tag col, un/mark that file with desired tag!
Context menu of column Tag I'm not sure, because it would go against the usual ctxt menu of a column.
I agree that, while single left click is nice, it may be too likely to result in undesired changes.
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!
(XP on laptop with touchpad and thus NO mouse!) Using latest beta vers when possible.

hmm... you mean using "Tag Column (Label)" instead of Symbol? Yeah, it wouldn't look as bad I guess, but I like the symbol thing better, plus I like to have names for my tags, too ;) (And a column slightly smaller certainly wouldn't be a bad thing in my book)

No, because we're talking here about right-click on the column's content, within the row, not the column header!

I agree that column could be smaller, Don seems to have an idea in meantime. Lets see.
And yeah, i too realized that naming tags would make sorting functional.

 jacky, sorry but where did I ever say col hdr? Here's the orig quote again with approp part bolded now:

So I was always talking about context/right-click at the row/file level, ok? :P

Don, while looking at new tag panel in Config, I see that it says "2 files"...can you share some ideas of how you plan to let us locate those files? Within "Find files" maybe?

But then showing them via List Mgmnt would allow us to locate/clean up those that may no longer be around...similar to History, for ex...and which would be a fomatted display of tag.dat in one way.

Which bring up the issue: When we delete/rename/move a file with a tag, what happens to the tag entry? :? How does that stay in sync?

Don't worry. This is the best and mind-bogglingest part of it. The code word is Virtual Locations (tada!!)--- it will be the hype of next week...
