Try it with Firefox. I heard it might help.

I would if I could, but IE is company standard and therefore not possible.

But it cannot be that XY is the only download problem your company has due to the proxy...

Well probably it is, because apart from XY.com I rarely download files from the same site on a daily basis, which keep their name forever but change their content all the time.
This is what makes the situation unique I think.

Did you ever try to set the value for expiry to -1 (i.e. <meta http-equiv="expires" content="-1">)?

This would not help because it would only affect download.htm. The point is to prevent caching of xyplorer_*.zip.
